A Quick Lesson in Italian EVOO
Last week, a group of media, including myself, was invited to a fun tasting of Extra Virgin Olive Oil (EVOO), held as part of the European Union and Italian Government’s Flavor Your Life campaign to promote EVOO in North America and done in partnership with Italian olive oil producer Zucchi.
As part of the evening, I got to taste and compare three different types of olive oil. I have never really taken the time before to taste the olive oil from each bottle of EVOO I buy on its own (just assume it’s all pretty much the same) and how different olive oil can taste based on the type of olive tree, where it is grown, and how different oils are blended together. It was like doing a wine tasting! One oil I tasted was mild and light, while another one I tasted was heavy, much oilier, and earthy.
In addition, Zucchi had a series of infused olive oils to try which were incredible. I tried the lemon, pesto, and white truffle infused olive oil, which would be incredible drizzled over salads, dipped in bread, or tossed with pasta.
