What’s a FLELE?

FLELEs are desktop mascots that “sing” when you give them a music file. They’re part of the program SSP, which you might be familiar with if you followed Zarla’s work in the Undertale fandom.

What else can it do?

This FLELE uses a custom file which gives it some Dr. Carmilla themed dialogue! When idle, she will sit on your desktop and “sing” lyrics from her songs. Her menu allows you to make and save playlists and shuffle songs. She has the same basic tools as any other SSP mascot, which includes an RSS feed reader and a simple calendar.

You can also give her a little hat! I promise this one fits (unlike the hats from Cyberia).

How do I install it?

All the files are in this handy-dandy folder!

If you don’t have SSP installed, download and run the .zip file.

If you do have SSP, download FLELE if you haven’t already, then drag and drop the .nar file onto the mascot. Then go to ssp_2_4_13f\ghost\flele_aya\ghost\master in your files and replace 1.dic with the 1.dic in the MediaFire folder.

FFFFFffffffuuuuuuu-lipping Ukagaka!

So. Couple days ago I booted up my computer for first time in weeks. I'm starting up programs like FL Studio and Audacity and Notepad++, cause I'm thinking, 'I don't really feel up to working on music, but I could do some new sound effects for f_lowe_y and/or Gaze.' (These are the two desktop ghosts/ukagaka I've been developing off-and-on over the last year or so.) So I boot up SSP. Immediate prompt for Update, and I'm like 'Yeah go for it.' so it runs, they reboot, and when they open again... None of randomised idle animations I'd slaved over for the two of them aren't working. (Gaze's base animation was running, just not the random portions) I get into the dev tools, and run surface tests. Everything looks fine from that end. Run through a bunch of dialogue, expression changes are still working. Boot up @zarla-s 's Hunter and Smoker ghost because I know it has randomised blinking. Nothing. I call (open concurrently) literally every ghost I have installed, run surface tests to see if they have randomised ANYTHING. Close those that don't. Sit watching for like 10 minutes. STILL NOTHING. I'm left sitting here like WTF, M8. Well, I decide it must have been the update to SSP, so I roll everything back to several older stable versions that the animations had worked perfectly well with, I uninstall and reinstall everything, I get close to just pulling my hair out and giving up. Figuring after 2-3 days of this that I need to focus on something else, let my subconscious work on a solution, I start trying to get some stuff out of my Dropbox. Long road of failure leads my to my computer settings where Lo, and Behold! My pc had been sitting on an unfinished update for gods-only-know how long. I restart the system, it finishes installing whatever it was, and BOOM! I boot up SSP on a hunch, and everything is hunky-dory! AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAUGH. Not that I'm not glad, I am super relieved that things are fixed. I'm just frustrated. The English language community for these is so small. If someone encounters a problem, the places they can turn to are limited. I got lucky. My problem fixed itself. Not everyone is going to get lucky. So I felt that it was important to share this whole ordeal, so that some other some other poor soul doesn't go searching for something like "SSP ghost animation not working" and get zero relevant results.
