Sorry if you've answered this already and I missed it, but how far ahead did you know human fruit would be a thing? Was that something you had planned in order to make certain characters accessible again for the finale (at least, I am hoping that's what it means, lol) or was just something the Glashtyn said and both you and Mosk went "wait a second"?

I've known about this for about a year. I mean the scene has been written for about 5 months before it got posted, and then before that I knew for quite some time before? At least while I was doing the chapter plan of book 2 of The Ice Plague. So over a year.

I always needed a solution for Augus and Ash being unable to feed properly, simply because they're involved in the final chapters. And that was too big a situation to simply kind of wait for the 'right solution' to come at me at the last second. So I've been sitting on that one for about a year. I had another initial plan but I didn't like it as much.

I only ever wanted it to be lightly foreshadowed, but a) Mosk creating a plant out of 'nothing' for the Raven Prince and then b) Mosk needing to have 'encountered' humans via the Ratcatcher were the two building blocks we needed to make this feasible. So I did start lightly foreshadowing this about midway through book 2 of The Ice Plague. But I also wanted no one else but Mosk to see it coming, it was meant to feel completely 'unthinkable' but not so far out of the realm of possibility given Mosk's past experiences. :D Mosk's 'wait a second' moment - if it felt like he (or I) came up with that last minute, then good! That's what I was going for. He'd hate himself if we all thought of it sooner and he didn't do anything about it.

But yeah, would never have kind of done that one 'last minute' only because I knew when I was taking them out, there was no easy fix. So I needed a very creative one that no one else was able to think up (i.e. not Gwyn, not Eran and so on).
