"Happy birthday, Lucina!" Though the young woman might not have been Sumia's daughter by birth, she still considered her one, and was elated that they'd grown closer over the years. She handed the other woman a little box with a necklace nestled inside: a tiny flower charm sat at the end of the chain with a blue gem held in its setting. "I hope you like it! You're going to have a wonderful year, I'm sure of it!"
“Oh, Sumia... You didn’t have to gift me anything. A happy birthday would have been enough for me.”
Still, getting a gift was nice, but Lucina kept that thought to herself. She didn’t want to appear childish or greedy for being happy over receiving something from someone she considered her mother.
Gently, the princess opened the little box, eyes sparkling at the gift before her. It was such a lovely necklace, probably too lovely for someone like Lucina - in her own eyes, anyway.
“It’s beautiful... Thank you, Sumia. I shall cherish this gift forever...!”
She may have not been her birth mother, but Lucina had always cherished Sumia like one. Nothing about that has changed.
