ooooh something new chara headcanons...
frisk and chara are actually my favorite undertale characters (sorry sans not sorry), and i really like reading on interpretations of them. imo, chara is a reflection of the player's decisions/control on the story, like you can name "chara" anything you want and that name would stick in the story world. i just find that super interesting!
but anyway, back to something new chara... definitely i headcanon them sometimes just mistakes killer for flowey and call him "asriel". and like, that's understandable. killer's personality can be veeeery similar to flowey in certain aspects. chara seems to be in power, but there are certain moments of vulnerability that killer takes notice of and files away for later.
also i just like to headcanon that chara has gone to the surface in certain runs, but there's definitely something wrong with it. they just return back to the underground after an amount of time. as if this is not how the story is supposed to go...
I definitely fuck with the idea that Something New Chara is trying to make Killer a “better, stronger Asriel.” One who isn’t as pure, one will fight back and defend himself and won’t just die and “ruin” the plan like Asriel did.
In many ways I do like to think Chara was always wanting to make Killer their perfect partner in crime. Instill the right beliefs that’ll keep him both alive and with them, make him like them. Unfortunately for them, they created a creature they couldn’t contain—one they eventually took the beliefs they taught him—kill or be killed, control or be controlled, the most Determined decides fate—and used them against Chara. I’m sure Chara never imagined the day would come where they needed Killer more than Killer needed them.
I do definitely think Chara did give Killer the locket at some point. The “best friends forever” heart one. I’d imagine Killer got rid of it the moment he got rid of Chara, or at least keeps it somewhere hidden and out of sight if he can’t quite let it go. Maybe it’s the first thing ever given to Killer that wasn’t an obvious weapon—maybe it’s like his golden flowers for him.
And I definitely like the idea that Chara went to the surface a few times but could never bring themself to stay up there. Like Sans, they are no longer the person they were all those years ago—home, the birthplace, does not look familiar. I’m sure they’d rather stay in the Underground now, having fun with their new best friend, their partner—the one who’s not leaving them or dying on them because they can bring him back.
Ugh. Imagine the interacts between Killer and Flowey. Can Chara even recognize Flowey as Asriel anymore—they did refer to him as something along the lines of “that stupid flower” in the comics. Does Flowey ever try to appeal to Chara, show how he’s grown “stronger” now, only he can never measure up to Killer. I wonder if Flowey ever resents or is jealous of “Sans”.
Killer is what Flowey tries and fails to be. The perfect partner.
