welcome the the sixth fic rec friday! where, on friday, i rec five of my favourite fics.

1. Chapped Lips by Creatortan

Lance's lips were a distraction, sometimes. Keith just couldn't keep his eyes off of them.

i read this one and forget to bookmark it and it haunted my mind for WEEKS as i desperately tried to find it again. i went bonkers bc i wanted to reread it so bad, bc it is EXCELLENT. its fun and gay and the team as family dynamics are AMAZING, no team bashing here!! and as usual the pining was chefs kiss.

How do Lance and Keith react when the other is kidnapped?

yeah, yeah, i know. another omegaverse. absolutely feel free to avoid this one if it’s not ur thing, i know it’s not for everyone, but it was one of my first pieces of bamf unhinged lance and i refuse to be ashamed of liking it lmao. also i think it’s fair to say that this fic inspired my unhinged batshit lance fic, at least a little. give it a try if ur like me an abo is a guilty pleasure lmao

words cannot explain how much this series means to me. genuinely a series that is so poetically soft and loving that it makes tears well in your eyes. i started reading this series right when i turned 16, and idk it truly made something crack in fizzle in my brain, it made me realise how careful and choosing love is. i have read this series more times than i can count, definitely one of the top ten, and there are lines from this fic that i repeat to myself when i am looking for hope. i know it hasn’t been touched since 2020 but i will be watching it carefully and hoping for years to come. (my favourite, in the series, although it was hard to choose, is i want to kiss you there)

4. Read Label: Lance McClain’s Boyfriend by @bleusarcelle

“You know I’m not ashamed, right?” Lance meets his gaze sheepishly. “Like, I’m not ashamed of you, of us. Far from it, babe, I swear –”

“Lance,” Keith cuts in kindly, smiling warmly at the teen in his arms. “Believe me, I know but I do want to tell the world what you mean to me. I wanna start with our team, our family.”

“You should come with a warning,” Lance whispers, stroking Keith’s chin fondly as he drops his voice. “Caution: words that leave these lips may cause falling deeper in love. Thank you for shopping at Mullets4sales.com.”

Keith throws his head back as he shakes with laughter. Lance grins proudly at sound before he props himself on the bed and drops unceremoniously on top of his giggling boyfriend’s chest.

“But yeah, yes; let’s tell them after dinner.”

[Or the one where the team is on their way back home and stop on a planet where a pissy prince drugs Keith with a love potion and Lance has to endure watching his secret boyfriend being lovestruck on someone else that isn't him.]

bleusarcelle always has and always will be one of the core founders of this fandom fr. trust me when i tell u their work was THE work. i remember greedily reading every fic of theirs several time, and i still read several of them regularly. but i will always be a sucker for the secret relationship trope. and this one managed to have that trope with none of the team bashing or miscommunication garbage so it’s a banger from the get-go fr

THIS IS MY FAVOURITE VOLTRON FIC OF ALL TIME. i dont know why. i have no idea why ive latched onto this fic so specifcally, what about this fic just makes me want to reread it again and again, but if i could print this aand bind it and keep a hardcopy with me every day of my life i would. im obsessed with it. beauty and the beast who?? like this fic is everything to me. i cannot recommend it enough. im fully convinced this fic did something fundamental to my brain. nothing i write will ever be so dear to me as this fic and that’s literally okay. the stars aligned to make this fic possible. is it the fact that i know there’s pretzellus art for it and so the whole story was cemented into my brain? possibly. i truly do not know. but i am fully obsessed with this story and likely will be for infinity

Keith is Super Oblivious

So, Keith is super oblivious.

Lance is not.

But, Lance has never been in a male x male relationship so... He doesn't want to make the first move in case he does something deathly wrong.

Plus, Lance knows Keith at least likes men (and according to how he reacted to girls, Lance assumes he's gay but wouldn't put his money on it), so it still is possible that Keith has been in a relationship, right?

Keith doesn't know what the fuck is happening.

All of a sudden Lance makes him so happy, and he can't stop smiling when he's around him, and it's gotten so bad to the point where he avoids him EVERYWHERE.

Lance: Hey Keith, what're ya up to?

Keith: Nothing

Keith: *Naruto runs out of the kitchen with food goo dropping on the way*

Lance: He's been spending too much time with Pidge.

Lance is fairly confused after that interaction, because Keith just seems way more pissed around him now and maybe he was wrong?

But also, Keith lived in a shack in a desert for a year, so how can Lance trust his social skills?

Lance-social-star-McClain can't figure out Keith and he's SO irritated by it because he even figured out the little gremlin had more backstory then they said back at the garrison. And honestly, they need a couple of lessons in social etiquette too.

So one day he confronts Keith, because he's honestly so Done™ with this shit.

Lance: Hey Keith?

Keith: *very distracted and not realizing Lance is talking to him* hm?

Lance: Do I make you uncomfortable? Or am I not tolerable? Because I meant those arguments in all good fun, y'know, like friendly teasing and stuff... And, well, you... you've been avoiding me.

Keith: *staring him in the eyes, face slack with shock*

Keith: I'm gay

Lance: WHAT DOES THAT HAVE TO DO WITH ANYTHING?!

Yes, Keith had a gay panic and honestly who could blame him because Lance was just so sweet and vulnerable to him and wanted to make sure he wasn't bothering him and Keith is just so whipped.

Lance looks really hurt after Keith has no sign of saying anything else, so he starts to retreat, slumped and radiating a depressing aura.

And a sad Lance is a sad Keith, so Keith needs to stop this now.

Keith thinks maybe he's homophobic or something because he's oblivious as hell, so he tries to make sure they're okay.

Keith: If you're homophobic or something that's okay, I'm sorry I said that all of a sudden and I don't want you to make you uncomfortable-

It's then that Lance turns around.

He's gripping his left arm in a slumped position and his head is hung low.

But once Lance looks up Keith's heart is shattered into a thousand pieces.

Lance's face is tear-stricken and his eyes already have red rims. He has this sad smile on his face, and his eyes shine even more blue than normal. Keith shouldn't be appreciating the fact that he made Lance cry but oh my God he's gorgeous when he cries and honestly who can be gorgeous while crying? But Lance's eyes. The water from the tears swims around in his eyes, and what normally would be a shallow beach in Cuba is now the deep end of a New York port on a stormy day. It makes him gorgeous, but it makes Keith's heart ache.

Lance: First of all, I'm not homophobic.

Lance: Second of all, I... I'm just upset because you've been avoiding me and... you seem to be really mad at me... Honestly if I did something wrong, please let me know and... Even though I don't know what I did, I'm sorry.

Meanwhile Keith is having a huge internal panic because oh God Lance thinks he hates him but he doesn't know what to do so he says the first that comes to mind and...

Keith: I like you.

He's taken aback by his own statement because is that what it is? Is this what liking someone is like, is that why his heart feels so full near him?

Lance stares at him with wide eyes because what? Oblivious Keith™ knows what liking someone feels like and ADMITTED to it?

Lance: Are...are you being serious?

Keith: *looks Lance in the eyes*

Keith: Deadly.

Lances eyes are like the ocean, and he's the sand, because he keeps getting drawn back in over and over no matter how hard he tries to get it to stop...

But honestly? Keith doesn't care.

Because as long as he's with Lance, he's safe.

(and yes, in case you're wondering, they started dating shortly after that.)

Klance positivity week: proposal/marriage

Written for the Klance positivity week prompt proposal/marriage. It’s definitely the sappiest, cutest Klance I’ve written to date!. Small preview below:

Lance splutters indignantly, “I do not have a scheming face!”

“You do, I’ve seen it way too many times. What could you possibly be scheming while I’m talking about my propo-”

It hits them both at the same time. Which is honestly quite unnerving as Lance should know before Allura that he wants to propose to his own boyfriend. Allura has to clap her hands over her mouth to stop an excited yell escaping, which she’s only half successful in doing, while Lance just stares in horror at his friend.

“How did I only just realise this?” he says, voice far out of it’s normal range.

“To be honest, I’m surprised it’s taken you this long, I was expecting you to cave before I did,” Allura says, hand still partially over her mouth in a way that means she’s desperately trying to control herself.

Lance shakes his head, trying to sort out his lightning-struck mind. Out of the immediacy of the revelation, he realises the notion is familiar. It’s not a stray thought, not something he’s never considered before. It’s more of an affirmation, an acknowledgement of a fact so obvious it doesn’t need voicing.

My name is Lance, I was born in July. I’m a Garrison pilot, former Paladin of Voltron. I love Keith Kogane, and I want to spend the rest of my life with him.
