Letters for the ask thing! B, E for scintillation, and P ❤️
Sorry I never saw this until now!!!! ahhhhh!!!!!!!
B: Any of your stories inspired by personal experience?
Yes! A lot of my writing generally is inspired by moments of emotional expression in my life and I use writing as a way to navigate those emotions. Swear I’m not a psychopath, but Hollow actually has a lot of that kind of thinking behind it regarding frustration and anger. Crossed Wands has a lot of sexual exploration questions (that I had in high school and was at a different level of understanding any of it lmao). Scintillation is the most personal I think because it echoes a lot of nostalgia, homesickness, uncertainty about “growing up”, and disappointment towards my hometown that I’ve felt since coming back for COVID.
E: If you wrote a sequel to Scintillation, what would it be about?
HA! This story actually almost refuses to let me consider a sequel. This is mainly bc so much of this story is highly dependent on where Eren and Levi are in their lives when this summer passes so it’d be weird to develop them out of that. I bounced around an idea for a follow-up one-shot that took place a couple years later, in which Levi and Eren were living together but outside of town limits in a house that Levi built, but a bad snowstorm buries them in place and Levi freaks out since the power’s out and he can’t go home to check on Kenny or his momma.
P: Are you what George R. R. Martin would call an “architect” or a “gardener”? (How much do you plan in advance, versus letting the story unfold as you go?)
I’m an architect! I love writing out stuff in preparation for stories and coming up with detailed plot outlines. I’ll try and plan down to what happens in which chapter, when build-up should occur, emotional arcs, etc. It gets messy; I have journals that I write in but also frequently write on napkins, post-its, my arm, ANYTHING, and then cram it all into the journal bc sporadic ideas are ALWAYS coming to me. I try to leave the actual depiction of events kind of loose though so there’s still some wiggle room. Otherwise, I’ll “write” it in my head and then never actually put anything down. Like Crossed Wands and it’s 30 chapter outline *cries*
