Fluoxetin (Prozac): Happiness Drug
Fluoxetin (Prozac): Happiness Drug
Fluoxetin is the active component of Prozac. This drug became the most widely used antidepressant in the 1980s. This was thanks to its effectiveness and a few side effects. When fluoxetin was introduced in the 1980s, people lost their fear of antidepressants. In fact, the active ingredient in Prozac has become a success story in modern pharmacology for many. And what was the reason for that?…

I started seeing a psychiatrist because my depression and anxiety has felt worse than ever this year. I was never ready to take medication, until now. She prescribed Prozac for me to take. We started at 10mg and then moved up to 20mg two weeks ago. The thing is, my brother is recommending me to quit my meds. He says to honestly just dont take them. He said
(p2) that he has seen what its done to friends, people he’s met, and people he really cares about, and he told me that the sad part was so many turn to them and they only work in a small portion on people. He said that when he went through the same thing, what worked for him, was telling himself that he wasn’t depressed and that i should do the same thing.
Wow! This is unbelievably bad advice.
Antidepressants take anywhere from 2 weeks to 2 months to start working properly and stopping them abruptly can lead to really dangerous side effects. Not only that, but to just tell yourself to not be depressed is super unhelpful and honestly very privileged thinking. It is entirely your own choice whether or not you want to take antidepressants but telling other people to not take them because you think they’re bad is really awful. They can be a life-saving and necessary medication for every day functioning in many people.
Hey uhh anyone in this bar ever had like smell halucinations after prozac?
I know this sounds really really bad, I know. I'm on Fluoxetin and I only feel good a few weeks after a higher dose, after two months or so I feel like shit, that's also the Time I'm questioning my long term relationship. I don't want to break up with him, but I really don't know... I can't stand to cuddle with him anymore.
Maybe I'm not alone with this.
Please please reach out to me if this is something that happened to you!🙏🏻
Ahhh, why do i always wait until the last moment to go get new medicines - now i might be without my meds until week 8 of next year 🥲 unless my doctor has any other ideas😪
