flutterbyesandpollywogs asks: Any advice on "Sharing" when it comes to online stuff? I mean, I'm not sure if I should be sharing with online friends or be making "portfolio pieces" and when it comes to "time spent" and "Who would be entertained" by this, there's a lot of conflict for me...
Response: Great question! I think you can do all of it (as long as it’s not like a lot of NSFW stuff - just my opinion on that) for your blog, while keeping it more portfolio professional for other outlets like Vimeo and your portfolio website. Show your interests, your fun projects that you would think would entertain masses. See if those works can be done with original characters, not just fan art character animation (it’s a great challenge, and later be portfolio pieces - say like storyboards, character turnarounds, etc.).
What you can also do is have a project (and not that it’s a lengthy one, just a few seconds), where you can show your thumbnails/storyboard/animatic, to rough animation, and then clean up. It gives us an idea of what your strength(s), how you think in regards to the process of animation.
The one sure thing about sharing, is to be consistent in your posting when you can. Things can get busy (and believe me, I understand) - but the ones who stand out the most in animation and tumblr blogs, are those who continue to update on a consistent basis, and always has something bringing to the table.
I’ve seen your animation, and you do have awesome stuff! Just keep sharing, and as you do, it will open up more of what to share and what other avenues to display your works to audiences and potential collaborators. I do hope this answers your question - feel free to respond and we can talk more about this. :)
