FLUTTERSTARS

I learned of the existence of Sea Butterflies today and immediately decided I needed them to exist in The Reaching Isles in some way.

Flutterstars can be found active both during the day and night. They are awake for short periods of time and take regular tiny naps instead of long rests like most animals. At night, these creatures light up an organ within their shell and twinkle in large groups like stars. Their light isn't very bright because of the thickness of its shell, but some of its brightness can be reflected by its soft, translucent body.

Unlike larger creatures in The Reaching Isles, Flutterstars "fly" by floating on the thinner energy fields flowing through the air. These energy fields are too thin and light for most creatures to stand on and instead feel to them like a soft breeze does to us. Smaller creatures like the Flutterstar however can use these fields with ease.

Flutterstars feed on nectar, fungi, rotting tissue (both animal and plant) and other sweet things.

I started working on a fnaf sb oc that was totally meant to be taken seriously and not just a self insert to ship with Vanny, she doesn’t have a name but was initially planned to be a puffin (I’m thinking of making her a bat now) and she was a prototype animatronic which is why she’s small and looks more like the rockafire explosion animatronics bc she was a test, the team didn’t really know what to do w her so she’s just kinda. placed somewhere in the PizzaPlex where she just. tells kids animal facts if they talk to her? and she might uhhhh have a crush on a certain security guard idk (I refuse to draw humans)

Oriolestar (they/them) and their relative Finchsneeze (they/them), Oriolestar is Finchsneeze’s Aunc and Finchsneeze is Oriolestar’s Neifew! Finchsneeze loves Oriolestar and likes to brag that they are related to the coolest leader of all the Clans!

Can I Ask You Something?

Summary: Kelly's watching a movie when Cassie seeks her out, but it seems like she's having trouble telling her something.

Kelly stares at the tv, idly tapping her fingers on her knee. It's late at night, and for once, the house is mostly quiet. She's only somewhat paying attention to the movie she put on, though; It's longer than she anticipated, and her mind has already drifted to how comfortable her bed is. But she did stay for half of it already...

She blinks twice, and before she knows it, the scene has completely changed. Kelly sighs and reaches for the remote.

"Hey, mind if I join you?"

She turns her head, seeing Cassie's outline in the dim glow of the tv. She's in a tank top, shorts, and her bonnet, like she just got out of bed. Kelly retracts her hand from the remote. Her mouth opens, but she's unsure what to say, so she shuts it again. Cassie smiles and scratches the back of her neck.

"The movie's kind of boring," Kelly says, gesturing vaguely at the tv. "But I could turn something else on for us to watch."

Cassie hums, then circles around the arm of the couch and sits down opposite of Kelly. "I don't really care what's on," she replies with a shrug.

"Oh, alright then." After a moment of consideration, Kelly reaches over and picks up the remote, placing it next to Cassie. She should give her the option to change the channel anyway. "Blanket?" she adds, holding up the corner of the throw blanket next to her.

"Oh, no thank you."

Silence falls over the two of them as Cassie settles in. Kelly shifts in her seat, laying her hand on the cushion between them. In the corner of her eye, Cassie places her hand down as well, still staring ahead at the tv. Neither of them say anything, but Kelly glances at her every so often. Her hand twitches towards Cassie's, but stops short of actually touching her. She just can't.

They're friends. Not that it's stopping Kelly from having feelings for her. But no amount of staring when Cassie isn't paying attention, or stopping to look at every pink thing that catches her eye, or imagining Cassie being with her during every part of the day, is changing that, or making her feelings known. Kelly slowly drags her hand back, settling it next to her thigh.

Next to her, Cassie chuckles at something on screen, momentarily pulling Kelly out of her thoughts. She hums, pretending to react to whatever's happening. It's not like Cassie can tell the difference.

That's what always pulls Kelly out of her fantasies: how could Cassie love her like that when she's… her? Cassie wears her heart on her sleeve, and Kelly can't. She's close with her and Sam and Rosa, and she knows reasonably that none of them hold it against her, but some days it feels like she's all wrong. Like a piece of her is missing. And she can't bring herself to say it because they might not fully understand.

Kelly tries again to pay attention to the movie, but her mind won't let her. The sound goes through one ear and out the other, and whatever's happening in front of her is more of a blur of colours than legible actions. She sighs again.

Cassie looks over. "Feeling tired?" she asks, turning her body to face her.

"No," Kelly replies a little too quickly. She drums her fingers against the couch cushion. "You?"

"Only a little." Cassie laughs, throwing her arm across the back of the couch. "Are you not enjoying the movie?"

"Not really, no." She can't even remember what's supposed to be going on. Since Cassie's not watching the movie either, she mirrors her and turns her body halfway, allowing herself to take in the woman in front of her.

Cassie's leg is bouncing rapidly, and though she's smiling at Kelly, it doesn't quite reach her eyes. There's something on her mind.

"Um… bad dream?" Kelly's voice cracks on the last word, making her cringe internally. Cassie shakes her head.

"No, no. I couldn't sleep."

"Oh. That sucks."

Cassie nods, glancing between her and the tv. "Well, you're not watching this, and I'm not really watching this…" She picks up the remote and changes the channel, flipping to a random cooking program.

"…So, are you heading off to bed?"

"In a minute." Cassie doesn't make any attempt to get up, however, instead turning her gaze to something behind Kelly. Her bouncing leg slows down, but doesn't completely stop.

"Cass-?" Kelly starts, but she's cut off.

"It wouldn't be weird to, like, ask you to cuddle with me, right?" Cassie blurts out. "I mean, I know that you like your personal space, and you don't have to if you don't want to, I was just thinking…"

Oh.

Cassie stares at something just past Kelly's head while she puts the pieces together, slowly chewing her lip. It makes more sense that she didn't care what they watched. And why she came looking for Kelly specifically…

This means what Kelly thinks it means, right?

"I'd be fine with it," she replies after a minute. Her eyes meet Cassie's, and she gives her a tiny smile. "If you asked."

I need to hear you say it, she adds in her head.

"…Would you cuddle with me?" Cassie asks.

"Yeah," Kelly reaches up and puts her hand next to Cassie's, fingers brushing against hers, "I'd like to."

She follows Cassie to her room, neither of them speaking along the way. Cassie opens her door, gesturing Kelly inside, and stands in front of her mirror while Kelly steps in. Carefully, she pulls aside Cassie's blanket, slipping her legs under and sitting down. It takes Cassie a minute, but she comes to bed as well, sitting at the edge. She mumbles something.

"What was that?"

"…Could you hold me?" Cassie murmurs, rubbing her arm.

"Of course." Kelly lowers herself onto her side, brushing her hair out from under her head and along the pillow. Cassie follows suit. Slowly, she curls up against Kelly, her forehead pressing against her collarbones. One of her arms stays curled up against her chest while the other creeps over Kelly's exposed hip.

Kelly's arms curl around her in turn, one over Cassie's waist and one resting on her back. Cassie snuggles closer to her, shoulders loosening up.

"Goodnight," Kelly whispers.

Cassie doesn't respond, but Kelly can feel her lips curling against her skin. That's enough for her.

Okay it's not the Kinktober stuff I was working on but I love the Beholder's Rapture girlies a lot and I couldn't stop thinking about how Cassie wants to be protected and love the way she protects and loves others... These guys make me so ill and aughhhhhh

Anyways uh hope y'all enjoy it!

concepts for Flutterheart/Flutterstar (they/them)! what I might do with them is that they were born into the kittypet life but was taken into ShadowClan as a kit, as not only was ShadowClan low on warriors after the events of Casting Shadows, but they were found abandoned on Clan territory. their initial name was Flutter, so they were given the name Flutterkit

they grew up obsessed w following the code and becoming a true warrior, as they take pride in being part of the Clans, even if not being born into it. Rabbitheart, having been the one to find them, acted as a motherly figure to them, becoming their mentor, and even appointing them as deputy when she became leader after Brightstar’s passing (yes I’m thinking very far into the future here lmao)
