Not sure if or when it'll happen, but I like to imagine at some point the player characters in my current MASKs game will find a way to redeem my antagonist Bluescreen and bring him back to being a hero.
I'm a sucker for the "I came back wrong..." "At least you came back." trope, so I drew Alano reuniting with his girlfriend Layla. 🥹
That being said, I also imagined an alternate timeline where post-Bluescreen-redemption Flux Wisp ends up with his rival Sugarfrills, instead.
(This is like Spider-Man ending up with Black Cat instead of Mary Jane)
Bonus: Redeemed-Bluescreen Alano teaming up with Flux Wisp Anabel (referencing the interaction between 2099 and Peter B in ATSV, lol)
So a lot has happened since I shared my Bluescreen concept a while back...
First of all: There has been an interesting development where Bluescreen's character isn't just a hero-gone-down-the-wrong-path. Our GM wanted to include some sort of eldritch corruption, so now we got a Thing in Yellow possessing Bluescreen and spreading its influence across the multiverse. Oooh, spooky.
Secondly: I have been given temporary GM privileges and I am making it everyone's problem. Joking aside, I had fun coming up with a storyline where I get to throw Bluescreen at the players and watch them squirm as their metaphorical Avengers have to deal with metaphorical Thanos. And our forever GM is having fun getting to play, for once.
Thirdly: Two sessions in and the players already unmasked Bluescreen and figured out he's an AU version of Alano. Fml. <X,D They haven't put together that it's THE Alano that I was playing back in the day, but they've at least figured out "oh this is just an evil version of Flux Wisp" at the very least.
A BUNCH of stuff has happened in my ongoing MASKs game since my last update, but the only context you need for these arts is:
Anabel Reyes-- a female Flux Wisp from a genderbent alternate universe-- has somehow been swapped into this reality; taking Alano's place after he seemingly 'died' at the hands of a villain.
Anabel unlocked a new Move that allows her to bring a trusty pet into battle! Said pet is a poltergeist Anabel adopted and named Wattzon (she/her/it)
So I was scheming with the GM of my MASKs game and he let me create a villain that we plan to use in future story arcs! >83
His name is 'Bluescreen', and he's a Zone Cop Spacetime Officer.
A mysterious blue menace with shapeshifting and energy absorption powers.
He is a right-hand-man/dragon to the infamous Doctor Infinity - aka The Metatemporal Director (a canon character to the Halcyon setting). Acting as an enforcer for the stability of reality and elimination of space-time anomalies.
Nobody will know why this mysterious assassin showed up out of nowhere and started hunting down Anabel/Flux Wisp...
But when they find out, they will be shocked to discover...

...that Bluescreen was a Flux all along. And not just any universe's Flux Wisp-- their Flux. The original Alano Reyes in the flesh.
Remember in my previous post when I said "Alano died and was replaced by his AU counterpart Anabel"?
Well PSYCH! HE LIVED, BITCH. AND HE'S NOT HAPPY ABOUT IT. 🥲
What actually happened is that Alano got swapped with Anabel. So while she wound up in his universe, he wound up in her universe.
...and that's when Doctor Infinity took him in. Forcing him to fight other Flux Wisps from alternate universes in a story of Across The Spider-Verse level proportions.
If/when this character shows up in the game, it's gonna be a TREAT huehuehue~ 😈
Also shoutout to my GM for having the "he's the Blue Ghost to Flux Wisp's Clyde" idea, that was hecking genius
The teenage superhero, the living lightning bolt, FLUX WISP! And his civilian identity, the mild-mannered ALANO REYES! (Who just so happens to be the famous Youtuber-- ETHEREAL ACE!)
Also-- his beloved girlfriend Layla! And his heroic teammate Wraith!

I created this character back in 2020 when my friend invited me to a MASKs TTRPG. (I think I resisted posting him because he is very heavily based on another character...)
Flux Wisp is a Janus type hero, which means like Spider-Man he has to constantly deal with balancing his personal life and his hero life. On top of having to hide his hero identity, Alano also has to be careful about his online identity. He's a paranormal investigator who has gained quite a following from interviewing actual ghosts and posting it online. [His hero costume was inspired by his favorite character-- Clyde the orange PacMan ghost] Poor lad has to balance a lot of masks.
Alano's best friend and girlfriend, Layla Takahashi, is the only one who knows all his secret sides. She's a linguistic and historical genius, doing most of the research for Alano's youtube videos.
Wraith is a ghostly Soldier hero, and was Flux Wisp's first teammate in the fight against evil in the streets of Halcyon city. They get along due to the fact that they are both sorta undead. (Alano got his powers after an investigation into a 'haunted' abandoned laboratory went explosively wrong)

If Alano ever gave up on the secret identity thing, I could see him merging his super popular youtube persona and his superhero persona, evolving from the Janus character type to the Star character type.
Hero name Flux Wisp + online alias EtherealAce = Flux Ethereal!

...couldn't decide what to name Flux Wisp's "full spark" form. 'Feral Wisp', 'Volt Tackle', and 'Unchained Lightning' were all great ideas tossed around lol
