Sunda Flying Lemur aka Malayan Colugo (Galeopterus variegatus), mother with pup, family Cynocephalidae, order Dermoptera, Singapore

Not actually lemurs, and not closely related to lemurs. However the primates are the closest relatives to the Colugos.

Arboreal, they glide from tree to tree using large skin flaps, between the arms and legs.

Herbivorous, feeding on leaves and fruit.

Colugo the Flying Lemur

This creature is found in Southeast Asia and it’s name doesn’t really tell you the truth.  It is not a lemur and it doesn’t fly.  As with the flying squirrel, it glides using flaps of skin that run from their necks to their limbs and tail.  I guess ‘gliding lemur’ doesn’t have the same ring to it.  Although, Colugo sounds pretty cool. [Flag ID: A rectangular flag with 6 uneven horizontal stripes, the stripes are uneven and slightly wavy, aside from the first and second stripe, stylized to include hair. There are a pair of rounded small horns on the second stripe, fangs on the bottom of the fourth flag, as well as eyes, with the right having an light dull green colored iris. There is a tail, colored brownish grey with a blade like tip and a thin dull brown outline. Despite the common name of this group, "flying lemur", these creatures are not lemurs, and are not closely related to lemurs.

They are closely related to primates.

Colugos are gliders, like gliding squirrels and sugar gliders, and do not actually fly.

Nocturnal and arboreal.

feed on a wide variety of leaves, flowers, and fruits.
