It was weird seeing someone face to face after so many years. Of course he had seen him through screens, and he had seen him from great distances, but never this close. He had worked so hard and so long to avoid Namsoo after their last argument that he didn’t really think about what he would do if they ever came face to face again. He knew that eventually they would cross paths again, because they were both in the same industry. Mingi thought that he would be able to avoid it for a little longer, given how busy Origin had been over the past few years, but he hadn’t accounted for the year end award shows. Unfortunately for him, the green room used backstage for Origin was right next to Alien’s, which was why he wasn’t that surprised when he ran into Namsoo outside when he was returning from a bathroom trip. He paused for a moment, various emotions flickering across his face, before he settled into a neutral expression. “Sorry, excuse me. I’m just trying to get back to the green room.. Unless you wanted to stop me and start accusing me of being a lying cheater again or something.”

6. what is one thing (a concept, a genre, an outfit, etc.) you would least like your company make you do?

“they’ve made us do pretty much every concept already, to be honest. however, i guess if i had to choose out of the ones we did, like a cat was one of my least favorite concepts. the whole catwoman thing was a little degrading, in my opinion. i get that bc was going for sexy and all, but leather outfits is really a big no-no. in that sense, wasn’t the hugest fan of run devil run either and all the leather involved.” 

14. if you could be on any variety show, which one (or which type of one) would you want to be on?

“at this moment, i think king of masked singer would be really nice. i never thought about the show until goeun left, but now i want people to see that i’m a vocalist as well. other than that, i’m a big fan of natural tv shows so a reality show with lipstick! it’d be a lot different now that we aren’t living in dorms, and i think fans would be interested in seeing how we live individually.” 

20. did you enjoy the lifestyle of a trainee or of a debuted idol more?

“i was never the type that felt the pressure during the trainee life because debuting wasn’t exactly my goal. however, i think i like being a debuted idol more. at least now i have people who love and support me. as a trainee, everything was uncertainty and gloominess, and although i don’t remember much in detail, i think i’m a lot happier now. plus, i don’t have to dance for like six hours straight anymore.”

people always wondered how idols roamed around the streets in their free time, but most of the time, people don’t look too much into their surroundings. which also means that 9 out of 10 times, nobody recognizes suji when she’s out and about, and it probably remains true for her fellow idols as well. thankfully, a little time opened up between rehearsals here and there which signaled a coffee break for her. the rest of her members decided to take a nap instead, and so she decided to take the trip on her own. 

with the cup of coffee in her hand, she turned around to make the walk back to the broadcasting station when she ended up bumping into somebody instead. the drink didn’t spill, but she was still shocked by the sudden contact. “i’m so sorry!” she exclaimed, a hand coming up to cover her mouth before realizing who it was. “oh my god, oppa.” a sigh of relief left her lips upon recognizing the familiar face, and it was soon replaced with a smile. “fancy seeing you here. i don’t think you’re promoting right now, are you?”

23. out of the following six options, would you rather be allowed to play a major hand in the lyrics, production, choreography, styling, music videos, or concepts you release?

“styling! only because i think sometimes the male members get the backseat when it comes to styling. i’ve been satisfied with my own styling so far, but the oppas are always stuck with some t-shirt and jeans. it’d be nice if they get some unique styling as well! that, and sometimes i think the four of us don’t look like the same group, and that really throws off the chemistry we have as a group.”

28. what moment in your career are you proudest of so far?

“winning the new wave award at the asia artist awards! it’s one of the only awards we’ve ever won in our career, and it was also our first time at such a big ceremony. i remember being a nervous wreck while giving our speech, and i still can’t believe they made me say it. anyway, it’s nice whenever i walk by the trophy showcased at our company building! makes me think that we’re doing quite well.”

if you could be on any variety show, which one (or which type of one) would you want to be on?

        ♡         “ i think i would most like to be on another show like hit the stage, but for a change or a challenge, maybe something like law of the jungle. i’m quite physically fit and i think it would be fun to have to go all survivalist for a while! surprisingly, when i’m not on stage or i’m not directed, i can be quite introverted and silly, so i don’t think a TALK based variety show would be for me. ”

if you were auditioning for your company today, what would you perform for your audition, or what would you change from your original audition?

         ♡         “ oh, don’t make me REMEMBER that. i snuck away to audition, did you know that? i thought my mother wouldn’t approve, so i didn’t tell her anything about it until i got in. but she did, so i think if i did it again, i would tell her . . . maybe. and i’d prepare a rap to audition with instead of a singing. my voice isn’t bad but . . . i’m main dancer and lead rapper for a reason. ”

what one thing (concepts, genres, styling, frequency of comebacks, etc.) would you like to change about your current career as an idol?

          ♡         “ more lip gloss comebacks, maybe? but then i don’t know if that would be fair on the other members who aren’t part of the sub - unit. it’s no secret that i love cute concepts . . . i really lean into the maknae thing, i suppose, but i’d like to do more different things within lip gloss instead of our sub - unit activities being so similar to our main group’s. i know my members prefer sexy concepts though, so maybe not. maybe i’d make our input greater, make it more fair. ”

The relationship she shared with Namsoo was a simply complicated one. They were friends, that’s how they had started out, but over the years it had morphed into something more. They had started out as trainees with one another, a friendship spawning from there. It was weird to think that someone had seen her transition from being a quote-unquote, Jesus Freak, to being the woman that she was in present day. The woman who would all too willingly turn her back on the little girl that she used to be. For facade purposes she kept up her act. She pretended to be as kind as she was back then, albeit not as naive or sweet, but there were people who saw through that. Namsoo saw through that, and saw the impurities that she held. The only thing was that instead of running or judging, her label mate embraced them. Sometimes multiple times in one night. She sighed as she turned around in her bed to look at him, her eyes studying his face. “Are you leaving? I’m about to order takeout. You can stay if you want.” They were friends first, right? She couldn’t send him off hungry.
