Night Rain's origins...

i DEFINITELY lost the ask that this correlated with (probably because it was from like moon 21) but i've gotten a few inquiries now about Night Rain, especially pertaining to her other parent.

while no cat but Evening Fire knows the story of their other parent, his deputy Squirreltail recounts the day Night Rain was brought to the Clan. this likely takes place sometime in the mid to late 20s, shortly after Night Rain's attempt on Mulberry's life.

was this mostly an excuse to draw Squirreltail and Fog Light together again? YES. but i have been wanting to reveal a bit more about the Garden's neighbors, and Locust's relationship with Squirrel (and her former Clanmates) is very interesting to me.

Was the cat from moon 0 being the same one to die here an in game thing? (Like was there a ‘nees has reached the clan (loners name) passed away’ I believe the event in game is put).

Or was that a choice you made?

Also did they have a name…. Poor guy….

yes!! it is the same cat!! his name is Fog Light. i believe the game generated him in as just "Fog"? Imptail found him while on a solo patrol after being hit by a monster, and he ended up not living after clicking proceed. putting him in Moon 0 was more of an easter egg since i didn't have specific cats in mind originally and i knew you'd be seeing them again soon anyway. i think it hits harder for imptail too, seeing a cat he doesn't know WELL but has seen alive and fine before suddenly die.

in the comic's fiction, they're a SmokeClan cat. the other cat they're with in moon 0 is Squirreltail, who you've seen introduced in moon 5. Squirrel is the closest thing Evening Fire has to a deputy. they've both been there since the group's founding. Fog Light has always been pretty aloof and serious, talented but not very motivated. they mesh well with Squirrel's louder, ambitious, and more straightforward personality. they also both have a confrontational streak, which helps.

in the smokeclan file i keep just for record-keeping purposes, he was never present (i already knew he died at the time i made it), but Squirreltail IS and they have two kits together.

who knows. maybe you'll see more of their little family down the line.
