A relative here in florida being a medicine woman. I plan on getting into traditional herbalism and learning my mother tongue in the coming years to increase my gifts in healing. One of the traumas I want to break, is the one where we were forced to assimilate into colonial society and lost our cultural practices gradually. ------------------------------------------------------ Reposted from @chestnutschoolherbs (@get_regrann) - Herbalist and healer, Susie Jim Billie, collecting medicinal plants on the Big Cypress Seminole Reservation in Florida.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ .⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Ms. Billie was mentored in plant medicine by her grandfather and uncle, who were both Seminole folk healers. In addition to herbs, they called upon songs, chants, and other rituals in their practice.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ .⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Ms. Billie received the Florida Folk Heritage Award in 1985, and passed her knowledge on to her daughter, Agnes Cypress, and her apprentice, Mary Johns.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ .⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Are you familiar with any folk healers from your neck of the woods?
