Kwanzaa and Highlander Parades
Kwanzaa is an African-American thing, yet it uses Swahili as a language to express many things. Swahili is a southeast African language, while most African-Americans have roots in west Africa. Similarly, some Appalachians have adopted "highlander" marches to celebrate Scottish culture, and wear kilts and play bagpipes in a parade, despite most Appalachians having Scottish lowlander heritage. A strange sort of "folk" heritage celebration, the both of them. And some Appalachians have learned Scottish Gaelic, while the appropriate heritage language for most of them would be Scots (though, there is surely some highlander heritage here, and the Scottish cultures intermingle with eachother.) Swahili & African-Americans is similar with that, many of them should rather learn Igbo or Yoruba.
