Minho: Thomas, how do you want your coffee?
Thomas: As dark and bitter as my soul.
Minho: *to the barista* He wants milk.

You woke up to find you were in a parked car. All the other seats were empty. Your heart fluttered with panic until you turned and looked out the window. Newt, Thomas, Fry, Jorge and Brenda had their backs to you looking into the distance at something. You opened the door, causing all their heads to whip around in your direction.
“Y/n?” Thomas exclaimed, “are you okay?” He asked genuinely.
You looked down at your arm, it was wrapped neatly in a white bandage, clearly the work of Brenda.
“Er, yeah, I think so.” You stumbled out, “what did I miss?” You asked. Your mind whizzed around in a state of confusion, trying to piece things together, as you walked over to join the group.
“We were in the tunnel with the Cranks and then Jorge and Brenda saved our asses but you passed out from the cut on your arm. You scared the crap out of us, Y/n. If Brenda and Jorge hadn’t come then…” He trailed off and ran a hand through his hair.
You walked over to him and shoved his arm, “No way, you’re not getting rid of me that easily.” You teased. He chuckled in response.
You looked out to where the others were looking, “is that it?” You asked.
“Yeah, that’s it,” Jorge replied.
“The Last City,” Newt stated.
“Well, Y/n’s up now. What are we waiting for?” Brenda stated.
Your group walked back to the car and piled in.
A lot had happened since you’d regained consciousness. You had reached the Last City but you couldn’t enter the gates. Then they started firing at you, that was when they found you and took you away. The Right Arm. Which you later learned was also Gally. You were surprised and confused to see Gally, you thought he had died when you escaped the maze. He told you about Wicked and what was happening then he shows you the way in. As soon as Gally mentioned her, you knew Thomas would get angry and refuse to help. You had been there the whole time, you knew the whole story. The love, the loss and the betrayal. Teresa’s betrayal.
“Thomas. You have to remember why we’re here.” You stated after pulling him away from the group to calm down. “This isn’t about her, this isn’t about you, it isn’t about any of us. It’s about Minho. If this is the only way to get him back then we do it. I don’t like it any more than you do but it doesn’t matter. Please, Tommy. For Minho.”
Thomas had reluctantly agreed. He knew this wasn’t the time to be selfish.
Then came Newt’s outburst. It had come right out of nowhere, the yelling and the shoving. You let Thomas handle it whilst you further developed the plan but you knew exactly what was going on. The Flare. Newt wasn’t immune and it showed. It had started to affect his brain and seeing him every day, getting marginally worse, made your heart ache that you couldn’t do anything to help him. But in classic Newt style, he put on a brave face and hid it from all of you. Until he lost control on Thomas. Newt didn’t care about Teresa at all, you knew that. It was just a way to let out the anger he had building up inside.
No matter how much you pleaded, Thomas didn’t let you go into the city with him to find Teresa.
“It’s not safe, Y/n. You need to keep recovering.” He’d said motioning to your arm.
It was still in the process of healing and still hurt but it didn’t bother you too much. Your mind had bigger things to worry about. Like Minho. You were so close now. You weren’t going to let anything get in the way and you would do anything to get to him. Reluctantly, you obeyed Thomas and stayed at the Right Arm whilst they went to meet her. It was getting late and the healing of your arm was draining you so you found somewhere quiet and soon enough fell asleep.
You were woken a couple of hours later by Newt.
“Hey, Y/n. Come on, we’ve got Teresa, she’s gonna tell us where Minho is.” He whispered, nudging you slightly to make sure you were up.
“Ok.” You said, wiping the sleep from your eyes.
Newt offered his hand and you grabbed and he pulled you up.
“Thanks.” You smiled as you followed him to where Teresa was.
Something rose inside you when you saw her. You didn’t return the smile she gave you.
“Hi, Y/n.” She said casually, “how are you?”
There was nothing casual about this meeting at all.
“The small talk isn’t necessary. Just tell us how to get to Minho.” You replied flatly.
Teresa sighed loudly and without too much resistance began to tell you what you needed to know. When she was finished, you continued to probe with questions, making sure there was no margin for error.
“He misses you, Y/n.” Teresa added, “he has the strongest of minds out of all the subjects.” She finished.
“Subjects? Minho isn’t a subject, Teresa. None of them are. Some of them even used to be your friends. Do you remember what those are? Because it doesn’t seem like you have many left except for your new best friend, Janson.” You took a threatening step towards her but Newt stopped you.
“Okay, Y/n. That’s enough. I think she gets it.”
“Yes. Thank you, Newt. I’m sorry, Y/n. I didn’t mean it like that.” She dropped her eyes to the floor.
“Whatever, I’ve had enough. I just need a minute.” You said and walked out of the room hoping to escape for a while to clear your head.
You walked over to the wall and sat down, your back against it, hugging your knees. You dropped your head into your knees and took a few deep breaths. The thought of Minho being referred to as a subject floated horrors into your mind. ‘What were they doing to him?’ You asked yourself. You prayed he would be okay when you got there. You needed to get there. You suddenly realised it was selfish of you to let your emotions whirl like this. You replayed the speech you’d given Thomas the previous day. This isn’t about you or me, you’d said to him.
You stood up and walked back into the room to be greeted by three sets of eyes staring at you intensely.
“So what’s the plan?” You asked them, crossing your arms.
For Minho. For Minho. For Minho.
The words replayed in your head like a mantra. That’s why you were here. For Minho. And you weren’t about to give up now.
You called in Brenda and the five of you discussed the plan, every detail. There was no way it was turning out how the last one had.
The following day, you, Newt and Thomas walked into Wicked with Teresa. The three of you were dressed as Wicked soldiers. Your heartbeat never set into a steady rhythm until you got in the lift. You sighed deeply, you’d gotten through the main security. You were so close, that was when someone stuck their hand in the lift door just as it was closing.
Janson.
He filed into the lift and stood next to Teresa. You turned to your left and looked at Newt who just nodded at you, a sign of reassurance.
Janson began to babble to Teresa, proving your previous point that they were friends. Then he said Thomas was in the city. If your life isn’t on the line you probably would have burst out laughing at the comment and the hidden irony but you kept it together. The elevator stopped at your floor and the three of you followed Teresa out. You saw Thomas shove Janson slightly as you walked out.
“Subtle.” You whispered to him sarcastically once the doors closed behind you.
You split up once in the correct place and started searching for Minho. Newt and Thomas went together and you went with Teresa. Once the boys were out of sight, Teresa ran away from you. You chased her down the corridor but she went into a room and locked the door.
“What the hell, Teresa? We’re meant to be working together.” You shouted through the glass.
“I’m sorry, Y/n. I really am but I need to run these tests on Thomas’ blood. It’s the only way we can save everyone.” She replied walking over to a desk.
You were about to ask her where the hell she got Thomas’ blood from but then you realised, the chips. She must’ve taken some when she took his chip out earlier. You shook your heading disbelief.
“Whatever. I can do it by myself.” You muttered. You had faith in your abilities. You were one of the best fighters in the Glade, you could manage.
You stepped away from the glass and jogged to the next window. It was a large lab with a table in the middle but no one was in there. You jogged to the next door and that was when the alarms went off.
“Shit.” You hissed under your breath.
Your previous jogging turned into sprints. You rushed to each door and looked in every room but he was nowhere to be seen.
“Come on! Where are you?” You asked to the silence of an empty room.
You hoped that Teresa had given you the truth and that this wasn’t a huge trap. It may well have been another test set by Wicked, nothing was certain in this world whilst people like Janson were still alive.
You were checking a small room when you heard the heavy footsteps. You ducked to the floor and hid under the window, praying they would run past. You heard muffled speaking and the footsteps stopped outside the door. You held your breath, not wanting to make a sound and stayed absolutely still. You moved your hand to where your gun sat around your neck. You shifted and held it, ready to defend yourself.
Finally, the feet continued and the guards moved on. After waiting a couple of moments, you stood up and continued to sprint around the complex, checking each and every room.
“Over there!” Someone yelled. You looked down the corridor and saw a group of guards looking your way. You turned around and ran.
You could hear their heavy footsteps following you up the corridor but you continued to run. A bullet whizzed past your head so you began to fire back, defending yourself, as you run. You hit one man but you were still heavily outnumbered.
Finally, the corridor started to bend slightly. You whipped around the corner and saw Newt and Thomas in a similar situation to you. Janson and guards were hot on their heels running towards you as you ran towards them.
You nearly tripped and fell flat on your face when you saw who else was with them.
Minho.
The two of you locked eye contact and you saw his face falter at the moment you felt tears brimming in your eyes.
“Y/n!” Thomas snapped you out of your trance by motioning to a door in the middle of the corridor. You nodded in agreement and put on a final all-out sprint to get to the door. Bullets flew all around coming from both sides but the guards had eased off slightly, afraid to hit their side on the other end of the corridor.
You got to the door just after Newt opened it. Newt and Thomas ran inside but Minho waited for you and then shut the door and locked it. The other two were already bustling to block the door but you didn’t register anything they were doing.
Minho practically ran towards you and hugged you tighter than he ever had before. Tears started streaming from your eyes. Tears of joy. You were finally back in his arms.
He put his hands on your face and you looked deeply into his eyes. You could see he was tired, he had heavy bags under his bloodshot eyes. You smiled at him through the tears.
“I-“ Before you could say anything at all, Minho cut you off by pulling your lips onto his. Heat surged through your body as the two of you moved rhythmically together. You realised how long it had been since you’d felt that feeling and it made you hungry for it even more.
You pulled apart and Minho whispered, “I missed you so much, Y/n. Every day without you was torture. The only thing keeping me going was knowing that I’d see you again.”
You were about to reply but again you were cut off. This time by a loud drilling sound coming from the door. Sparks flew off where the lock was. Janson was cutting through.
“Y/n, Minho, I hate to break it to you but that’s all the time we have for a reunion.” Newt spoke quickly, “we need to get out of here. And fast.” He scanned the room thinking of options, there weren’t many.
“I have an idea,” Thomas said.
You followed his gaze; the window.
“That’s crazy. We can’t… can we?” You asked, Thomas.
“I don’t think there’s any other option,” Thomas replied.
He then grabbed a huge barrel and threw it at the window, shattering the glass. You watched it fall, there was a large pool at the bottom. A soft(ish) landing for you.
You looked at Minho, he seemed just as scared as you were.
Whilst the four of you dithered on your exit plan, the door flew open.
Without hesitation, Minho grabbed your hand and the four of you jumped.
As you fell, a sense of relief and happiness washed over you. You had your best friends with you, you had Minho back by your side and you hoped you were escaping Wicked for good.
