One of the best/worst thing growing up with foreign parents is that you learn their country language and customs through them so if what they do is regional, local or simply nuts you cannot tell.
Case in point:
A Portuguese friend who was our class valedictorian, spoke French like she was possessed by the spirit of fucking Molière and Victor Hugo and refused to talk Portuguese to me because “you don’t understand, I’m bilingual but I sound like a goat sheperd born and raised in Trás-os-Montes whose live highlight was being head girl in the procession of Our Lady of Agony who is in France visiting her rich madrinha for the first time.” I asked our Portuguese teacher and she confirmed both her total bilingualism and her very very strong accent.
A Chinese friend that loves rap, techno, house and hate his family for the insatiable taste of Chinese 60′s housewife ballads his mother gave him. He is embarrassed his middle aged aunts see which song he listen to.
My sister whose mom version of “frrango caipira” (farmers chicken a traditional Brazilian dish is by a mix of spiced bright yellow, more than some desi curry dishes, we suspect it might glow in the dark we call it “radioactive chicken”. We always assumed it was a special brasuca secret preparation but sis visited Brazil looking for it and discovered the dish is nowhere as bright. We have many questions now.
My mom and her family version of Ecuadorian food includes guinea pig, liver in various forms, chicken hands, hearts, snails with cow tongue being the main delicacy. In Ecuador not even young people from the rural area my mom comes from don’t eat that and mostly consider it kind gross and I look like a snail/guinea pig/tongue eating mix between a cannibal, a hobo and the monsters their grandmas warned you about.
I love this game. And also cow’s tongue with peanuts sauce.
And another new video :D I shall be posting every Thursday from now on! Please subscribe if you haven’t already and share :)
My mom speaks patois all day and then has the nerve to tell me that AAVE, which she derrogitorily referred to as ebonics (it was in her tone), is basically a gutter language that has no purpose and didnt need to be created.
And when I tell you I AM FUMING GOD DAMMIT!!!
s/o to all the foreign parents
nothing you'll say will hurt me bc my parent been said worse to my face ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
