Ask Prompt: Repetition
At times during the Blight, it was incredibly difficult for Inara to remember why she bothered trying to do...anything, really. Everywhere she went, she was met with more problems to solve and more obstacles to overcome. The Grey Warden treaties were practically useless unless she jumped through a million hoops to gain the allies she needed.
Each time she was met with a seemingly impossible task, Inara would feel herself shutting down. It was then that she'd lapse into repeating the names of the people she was fighting for, dead or alive, like a personal mantra inside her head:
Mother, Father, Fergus, Oren, Oriana, Rory, Nan, Duncan.
Over and over again she'd repeat those eight names, plus many others as they occurred to her, until she started to feel as if nothing could keep her from her goal. In those moments of apathy and despair, remembering the people she'd lost was the only thing that kept Inara going––that lit the fire of determination in her once more and reminded her that fighting for a chance at vengeance was better than fighting for nothing at all.

Ask Prompt: Temptation
Temptation is a thing Inara has known many times in her life; temptation to steal sweets from the kitchen, temptation to sneak off and play Wicked Grace with the guards, temptation to start a fight where there needn't be one. All people are tempted from time to time and Inara is no different, but she never knew true temptation until the Sloth Demon put her to sleep and sent her into the Fade.
Inara's dream was well-crafted, and she's unlikely to ever share its true contents with anyone. The demon didn't have to dig very deep to find the thing she wanted most; the loss of it was far too fresh in her mind for it to be a difficult thing to discover. For a little while, deep in the Fade, Inara was with her family again. Castle Cousland was whole and so were they, and she was happy. Everything was perfect––much, much too perfect.
She relived the deaths of her entire family in that dream, but this time they died at her own hands. When she started to realize that something wasn't right, they pushed her to believe the lie, and that only made her wake more quickly. The demons there didn't bother to remove her family's faces before attacking her, and Inara had no choice but to slaughter them all herself to escape the dream.
Meeting with the Sloth Demon again brought the temptation to light. It offered to make the dream better, to make her happier. Something deep inside of her wanted to say yes; some desperate, broken part of Inara Cousland just wanted to have her family back for a little while, even if it wasn't real, even if she was only letting the demon feed off her until she died. She was tempted, oh yes, but she somehow found the strength to refuse––perhaps by remembering the snarl on Oren's face as she buried her blade in the child's chest.
An image she's never been able to scrub from her mind.
Disintegrate, ticking & entropy.
+Disintegrate
One of Roderick’s greatest fears. He takes his knight’s oath very seriously, but is also incredibly loyal. When captured by Loghain, he was bound by his oath to serve him, but bound by his loyalty to despise him too. He felt his life crumbling away, and his conflict almost ruined him. After the Cousland’s reclaimed their land, Ser Gilmore was obviously glad, but ashamed at the same time he couldn’t do anything to help. If something like that were to happen again, he wouldn’t make that mistake…
+Entropy
When he was younger Ser Gilmore had a drinking problem at a young age. It happened around the same time his younger brother died, and was spurred on by his grandfather, who was also an alcoholic. He soon found himself in bar brawls and creating problems with all sorts of people in the town. If his father hadn’t been Lord he probably would’ve ended up in prison for a while. Luckily, his father sent him packing to Squire for the Cousland’s, who soon cracked him into shape and turned him into a man to be proud of.
+Ticking okay i srsly have no idea i mean i googled it and i still didn’t have a freaking clue okay im sorry lmao

Ask Prompt: Benediction
Inara has never been much a fan of religion. From what Aldous taught her, a lot of it just sounded like man using the Maker as an excuse to treat elves and mages as lesser beings. Most of the stuff came off as self-righteous and, to put it bluntly, boring. It just was not her cup of tea.
But that didn't stop her from kneeling down at Mother Mallol's feet and saying a prayer for the men marching south to fight the Darkspawn, or for the Maker's blessing and protection over Highever while they were gone.
A lot of good that did her, right? The only prayers she's said since then have been in anger or desperation. She can't help feeling like, if there is a Maker out there, he doesn't seem to care all that much about his children.
