Giving a gift to the King of the woodland realm was no simple task as you had managed to find out his birthday was coming up quite soon with only a few days to come up with something. She had asked Bilbo and Gandalf for advice but Bilbo thought a nice meal would be good enough while Gandalf merely said
“It does not matter what it is, only the feeling given through it.”
She even asked Thorin believing that perhaps kings have a few interests in common. However, he only said the dwarves were accustomed to weapons or jewels as gifts to each other. Eventually, she found his ideals quite the opposite in terms of gifts that she knew Thranduil wouldn’t be interested in. She was walking around her room trying to find something that would be worth something to him. Even searching through her books for any traditional gifts that were expected a small creaking sound from behind her caused her to jump and almost drop her book as Tauriel had managed to silently come in, elves and their light steps.
“Goodness gracious, You nearly gave me a heart attack.”
Tauriel gave an apologetic look as she closed the door.
“You didn’t come to practice, I was worried that maybe you were sick or merely forgot.”
“Oh no. I’m so sorry, I must have lost track of time, but I’ve been stumped for days as to what gift I should give to Thranduil.”
Tauriel smirked as her embarrassed face at the mention of his name.
“Well, perhaps you should give him something that he almost forgot he had.”
She looked at Tauriel a bit confused, what had Thranduil forgotten. As she was about to ask, the door had opened up to Thranduil entering in his long silver robe with a red cloak around his arms with his crown entangled elegantly in his hair as if the crown were growing with small red leaves blooming from it.
“Tauriel, the scouts have spotted more spiders along the border of the kingdom, please send a squad with you and deal with the matter quickly.”
Tauriel bowed her head to him, as she walked toward the door she gave a subtle wink to her and closed the door.
Thranduil brought his attention to her as she closed the book in her hand and placed it back on the shelf.
“I wished to ask If you would accompany me to the celebration in a few days.”
She felt her whole body stiffen at the questions but not in a bad way, far from it. She turned around to find him only a few inches away from her. She felt so small compared to his height as she looked up into his eyes, they had seen so much. much more than she ever saw in her life. He placed an arm up against the shelf as he leaned in a bit closer to her.
“Would you?”
“Of course, why wouldn’t I.”
“You seemed to have been avoiding me for the past few days.”
She had forgotten that every time she saw him she thought he would find out what she was doing and quickly rush away and even when they were together to tried to asked mundane questions about the elven court or even the high council. She sighed as she lightly pushed him away.
“I meant no offense, I just have a surprise for you. I didn’t want you to figure it out.” She said as she hoped he wouldn’t realize she hadn’t even thought of what to get him. She found his arm around her waist as she felt him envelop her in a sweet embrace.
“Thranduil...”
She raised her arms underneith his to feel his hair graze above her hands as she could feel his warmth around her. His scent was strange, while the forest was clearly around the faint smell of berries and herbs surrounded him
“The greatest gift you could ever give me is this. To have you at my side, to be there for me as I will always be there for you.”
She felt him move away for a moment as he brought a ring into the frame. Quite beautiful as it seemed to be made of white metal for the band and inside was petrified wood in small lines with tiny small white speckles with a clear cut of a diamond.
She looked shocked as she brought a hand to her mouth, quieting a gasp as she saw the ring. Thranduil smiled at her reaction and offered his hand to take hers. She smiled and nodded as she lift her hand to his as he placed the ring on her finger. She started to cry at the sight, she felt his hand graze her cheek wiping the tears away.
“My love, my wife to be.”
She felt his hand caress her cheek as the other stayed wrapped around her waist as she wrapped her behind his back. A simple kiss was placed on their lips, to him it felt so natural as he relished at the moment. To her, if felt something entirely, a kiss to her husband to be made her feel so many emotions at once. Love toward him, happiness for both of them and a sense of bliss at that moment.
A sudden knock on the door caused both of them to pause at the moment. Thranduil looked annoyed as he brought his attention to the door where Legolas stood with a puzzled look.
“Ada, You wanted me to report to you immediately once I returned.”
“What is it?” He said with an annoyed look on his face as he turned around to look at him straight on.
“Seems the scouts have seen a few more orcs around but they will not venture closer after today.”
Legolas looked over Thranduil’s shoulder to see her smiling in an embarrassed way as he looked at her hand, he smiled as he bowed his head in respect.
“My apologies Ada, I shall let you be for the evening.”
He turned away from both of them and shut the doors. She looked at Thranduil and spoke.
“If you need to...”
She was caught off once more by another kiss but this one was much most passionately than the last. He enveloped the red cloak around both of them as he kissed her neck and he relished in the sense of her touch and skin.
