Artist Research: For Further Study post 🎨🔍
I had the honor of researching Do Ho Suh, a Korean painter and sculptor. I was disappointed by how much of his work I had to leave out of my presentation due to the time restriction, because Suh has made so much more than just his incredible fabric architecture! Here are some links to check out if you want to know more ⤵️
1️⃣ For some general information about Do Ho Suh, check out his section on the gallery Lehmann Maupin's website: https://www.lehmannmaupin.com/artists/do-ho-suh/biography
Also, see his featured works, and some fascinating interviews.
2️⃣ This piece is called "Home within Home," and it's located at the Incheon International Airport in Seoul, South Korea. See this article to learn more about the installation and Suh's artistic practice.

3️⃣ In this image, Do Ho Suh is standing in front of his "Rubbing/Loving" project. I wanted to include this project in my presentation, but it took too much time to explain all the amazing details about it. This piece is incredible––Suh covered his whole apratment building in white paper and took a rubbing of the place. It's a different sort of recreation than his fabric buildings, and it's so cool! Watch this 6-minute video from Art21 to learn more––seriously, it's so interesting! And for even more context, give this short post a read.
(Title: "Rubbing/Loving: Apartment A, 348 West 22nd Street, New York, NY 10011, USA;" Location: Lehmann Maupin gallery; Date: 2016; Materials: multimedia––paper, colored pencils, pastels; Dimensions: variable)
4️⃣ Another fascinating type of work by Do Ho Suh are these thread drawings. They're literally threads embedded in paper, and they're basically replicas of Suh's sketches. Here's a 4-minute interview with Suh about these unique drawings.
(Title: "Staircase/s;" Location: Lehmann Maupin gallery; Date: 2019; Materials: threads embedded in handmade cotton paper; Dimensions: 98.82 x 60.24 inches)
5️⃣ Lastly, this piece is Do Ho Suh's "first––and only––public art piece," entitled "Public Figures." True to his unique themes, Suh made this monument to be about the people supporting it, rather than celebrating one particular person. See this article to learn more about this piece, and the special mechanism Suh installed within it.
(Title: "Public Figures;" Location: Metrotech Center Commons, Brooklyn, NY (Oct 1998-May 1999), Lehmann Maupin gallery (currently); Date: 1998; Materials: fiberglass and resin; Dimensions: 111.81 x 82.44 x 108.27 inches)
