Dopplegangers - Flesh and Bone

Well, maybe a bit less of the bone. I mean, there was some skelebob work at the same time, but that's in such an ugly state that we'll just leave it for a bit before we come back to it. So for now, a fleshy skin creature plan!

The plan, because we love plans, is to try to paint skin and faces. These things are hard, because they're so familiar that uncanny valley type feelings can creep in when things are wrong. Even if it's more cartoony, if it's bad cartoony then it looks shit. So we're going to try to do better. And what better way to do better and learn, is by trying and failing!

We'll start with white priming, because we've fixed that now, and I didn't want to have to work out vibrancy against the grey. Ignore the dwarf on this, as he was added in later as I decided to think about faces at the same time. We're starting with two very different base colours, because why not compare and contrast. Both basecoats are a bit crap, as I was planning on going back over with another thin coat and kind of forgot when I forced myself to do the next step.

OK, we can stop ignoring the dwarf for now. I chose one with stupid tiny face just to make it hard for myself and to push through the failure. I know, really setting myself up for success.

Now, where we failed a little in posting is I didn't take a before picture of these ones, because I started painting the wash and thought "oh shit". So, first up we went with Light Tone as we need to make use of that paint box set. Looks nice on the Sunny Skintone, though we're getting a more palid flesh feel than live-blood-pumping-human. On the Dark Flesh it's a bit more muted. Or just not doing anything. I mean, I didn't expect it to do much as it's so much lighter than the base, but worth a go.

This paint again. I did say it should be good for fleshy skin tone and oh fucking hell it doesn't work over Sunny Skintone. Just, erggh. Reminds me of fruit salad sweets. To be fair, I did like the taste of them, but the colour was always a bit too artificial. Over the Dark Flesh is a lot better, quelle surprise, so might be a good enough base to put a lighter layer of something on top.
