ok so this is nothing like what i usually post but im getting desperate

how the fuck do i fix my italics on ao3...

i use reversi skin (dark mode basically) on my phone and laptop and i've tried resetting it to default, hiding work skins etc etc and i can see italics on fics perfectly fine on my laptop but they dont show up when i use ao3 (on chrome) on my phone????

(yes i am using a klance fic for reference - it's called "Call Me, Beep Me" [g rated] and its mostly a textfic so ik its got italics but the images are default + dark mode on my phone and then dark mode on my laptop for reference. keith is supposed to be italicised and pidge is supposed to be bolded.)

I’ve misplaced the instructions for “fixing” the spacing on AO3.  There was something about copying, pasting, finding, replacing?  Help?

Also -- *why* does this happen and how can I prevent it?  I use Google docs, I swear it’s spaced perfectly there but when I plug it into A03 the spacing goes all wonky and it looks like triple or quadruple spacing.  Not terrible in longish narratives but wretched in dialogue-heavy pieces.  Again, help?

Shouldn't the 2nd quantity be 38.5k, the same format as 19.8k in the post before it?

Writer problems: formatting woes

when you're trying to use formatting in an online story (fanfic) as part of the vibes, but the formatting is phoning it in with varying degrees of intensity depending on the platform the readers are accessing your work, so you get a review trying to give you friendly advice on how to fix your formatting from someone who doesn't know they're the only one experiencing that degree of formatting fail.

Last night, or maybe it was the night before that, I had a dream in which I was posting my dissertation to AO3. I had happily posted many chapters before I realized that copying to NotePad and pasting to AO3 had made all my subscripts disappear and everything looked stupid. When awake, I wondered some time if I should go through all the chapters and fix the formatting. Then I remembered that the dissertation is, in fact, not in AO3. (Thank every and any deity for that)

Ever thought of getting into self-publishing?

Here at academicresearchers I’ve always been interested in publishing a book, and sharing what I’ve learnt over the years. What better way to do both than publishing an ebook, right?

Turns out, it’s a little bit tricky. For my first book I’m doing something short and simple: The First 100 - the first 100 Chinese characters you need to learn to get into learning the language. The words are nice and simple. The pronunciation is there, the meaning is there, and the Chinese characters are all there. But when putting this table into an ebook, I came across a really frustrating problem with the formatting. This video saved me from throwing the project away completely.

Adapting a 12-14 page guide that was originally formatted for viewing in a bbcode forum so that it has the same level of readability on tumblr is such a pain in the ass, and the entire thing has to be done in html because tumblr's basic post editor is trash. Good thing I still remember 90% of the html I learned back in the day.

I imagine testing my formatting/tag nesting has done a number on my daily post limit, but at least I know things are looking the way they're supposed to now that I've figured out the quirks of tumblr's html parser. My short story guide should be ready to post some time next week at this rate.

Right so I’m having problems inserting an image into my AO3 story. I put in the url and then in the preview it’s just a blank square with the image description. Using Rich Text or HTML same thing. I’m going right from my email copying the url off the picture that was sent to me and then trying to insert into my story.

Any tips?
