Happy Carolina Day, folks. Never forget.
During our time in the City of Charleston South Carolina, my west coast damsel and I made our way to Sullivan's Island across the harbor from Charleston to Fort Moultrie. Fort Moultrie is one of the batteries that fired upon Fort Sumter that fateful morning in 1861. It’s history however is older as it was a line of defense during the American Revolutionary War built by the rebelling American to defend the city of Charleston from invasion of the British forces. Later during the Civil War, combined with Fort Sumter the Confederate Soldiers were able to hold off a Union attempt to seige Charleston. My lovely west coast damsel and I wondered through the batteries and inside the fortifications, which were used into the Twentieth Century as part of the United States coastal defenses until the era of ICBM's and modern warfare made it obsolete. However it's been wonderfully preserved and maintained on the tourist packed (at least before COVID-19) beaches because of its historic significance. #developportdev @gothamtomato @developphotoweek @getolympus #excellent_america @explorecharleston @charlestonsc @bhphoto @bheventspace #charleston #sullivansisland #fortmoultrie (at Sullivans Island Beach Station 22) https://www.instagram.com/p/CCMAcGeJaH_/?igshid=kjfwlwaflp1m

I looked into my photo archive to find a spring walk to post since this past week has been downtime due to the cold season, and the cough medicine.
And everyone seems to enjoy Charleston South Carolina, so is an area outside of the historical district.
Cross over the Cooper River on the Ravenel Bridge from Charleston and visit Patriot Point, the USS Yorktown, and the War Memorial. There is a welcome area, walkways, souvenir shop, and a walkout pier.

You can then follow South Carolina Hwy 703 from Mount Pleasant to Sullivans Island, about 6 miles. There you can enjoy nature, history (Fort Moultrie) and enjoy fresh seafood at a local eatery.
Happy trails friends 🙂
