Shock registered in Mithien’s systems. Verdant eyes widened as she stared at Tamar, quietly absorbing her words. With each confession, the girl’s face seemed to grow a little paler. She opened her mouth as if to speak then paused for a moment. Gloomy and useless? Words Mithien often used to describe herself.

“I’m sorry Tamar…I shouldn’t have…” Her voice withered into silence, a flower crushed by frost.

The blonde paused, pulling in a slow breath. You are selfish. But so am I. “I only said that because I…well, I thought I saw something of you that…reminded me of myself.” She lifted one shoulder in a sheepish shrug.

“I don’t really think I can fault you for wanting to live. Even if most of the time I feel I don’t want to be saved. Don’t deserve to be saved, I mean.” Her solemn gaze shifted to the ground beneath her boots. “I’m selfish too. I want to be happy so I endanger others by not pushing them away. Or I hurt them by not cutting ties soon enough.”

At her sides, her hands curled into loose fists. “All I want is to protect others. You say your value your life over nearly anyone else’s? I don’t know your reasons, but if you want to know the truth, I don’t fully understand. But that’s just because the only purpose I have in staying alive is to do something to help someone else. I have to make his sacrifice worthwhile. And once I do…well, I don’t really care what happens to me.” Mithien found herself blurting the confession, the words quick and bitter. She blinked, feeling warm tears threaten her eyes. Tamar’s own blunt speech must have prompted this in her. It was the only explanation she could think of.

I thought I saw something of you that…reminded me of myself.

The medic turned her attention to the blonde, ever so slightly shocked. It was strange, wasn’t it? How to almost strangers could have some something in common when it came to their stories, the things that made them what they were today. Or perhaps it wasn’t strange at all, but a consequence of living in the world that they lived in. Being born in the wrong place at the wrong time.

“I…don’t think too much about it, Mithien,” Tamar muttered, she was never too keen to discuss her terrible personality or her reasons behind doing things. Because people would realize just how damn selfish she was, and she couldn’t do with that.

“I don’t think I could fault anyone with wanting to live, that’s what humanity does-attempt to survive. And we seem to do a pretty good job of doing it at any cost whatsoever,” she shrugged. “You’re a brave girl for admitting that you’re selfish so outright…” brave or foolish, Tamar wasn’t sure which would be more accurate. Or which would have been better to say-fools seemed to live longer for some reason after all. I have to make his sacrifice worthwhile. So they did completely opposite things for the same reasons? It would have been touching if it wasn’t so sad. No matter what Mithien said, she was selfish in a damn good way.

“But…if you die protecting someone then the cycle goes on, don’t you want to just treasure the life he wanted to make sure you’d have? Why don't you care? It was obvious someone did once, after all.” It was a question asked out of genuine curiosity but she stopped herself from continuing the moment she noticed the girl’s eyes. Maybe she’d gone too far or maybe the girl was just…emotional. She wasn’t entirely sure. “I’m so sorry that you feel that way.”

Drawing his arms into his sides he sighed contentedly. The smell of the sea air hit his nose like a lap of an ocean wave. Calming and sensualising his every movement. Far up he stood. A terrace taller than any other building in the city. He loved this city. Venice to be exact. The way the buildings twisted and turned, in, out, and all in between. It had been long since he had climbed this building. Now he stood on the brink of the edge with a smirk across his face. He remembered how deathly scared he was of heights 4 years ago. Now he was proud of himself. He was proud of what he had become.

He was waiting for someone. Someone to be exact, who had greatly impacted his life. A friend he owed his debt too. An introduction to the Assassin's Guild. Without her, his life would've been over. Living as a street rat was all he knew. Stealing, cut pursing, and relaying information to higher ups. He was smart about it but knew sooner or later he would be caught. He stood on that tower, the ocean breeze in his hair, and a thoughtful feeling in his gut.

Eren Jaeger. An Assassin known throughout all the land for helping the people of Italy. The Killer in White, he was known as. All else seemed too relevant. He liked the names the people had given him. Some out of love and respect, others out of fear. Doors were locked at nights for fear of him. His friend should be here soon. At least he hoped as he waited up on that tower by the sea.

☮ - friendship headcanon

Tamar finds it hard to make friends with people, she’s hard to talk to and a conversation with her is usually painfully awkward. But it makes her relationship with anyone she considers a friend even more special, because usually someone who ends up being a friend of hers is someone who took the time to know her a little more, despite the painfully awkward conversations and the like. As such, she kind of treasures the few genuine friendships she actually has.

♦ - quirks/hobbies headcanon

Tamar doesn’t have many hobbies but one of the things she’ll do if she has enough free time is wander around somewhat aimlessly because she feels like she doesn’t truly get the opportunity to look around enough. It’s a little weird and more than a little awkward but on the other hand the change of scenery is something that she enjoys.

☯ - likes/dislikes headcanon

She has a big dislike for people who do not fulfill their potential or take advantage of the opportunities that they have for example someone from the top ten who didn’t take the opportunity to join the Military Police. However since she doesn’t often voice her thoughts and feelings (with the exception of ‘your depressing thought of the day with Tamar Vogel’) people tend not to realize just how far the dislike usually goes. May be overlaying bitterness from her inability to join the MP because she didn’t finish in the top ten and slightly hypocritical considering martial arts don’t help with medicine.

Outside These Walls

          Excitement and fear coursed throughout the entirety of the girl's petite body, mixing together in the pit of her stomach and causing a sense of uneasiness to wash over her. She had been waiting for this moment ever since she made the decision to join the survey corps -- the chance to go beyond the walls without Ymir there watching over her every move, making sure she survived. Anybody else would probably be grateful to have someone like that with them, but she didn't. Survival wasn't what kept her going -- the idea that she could die a hero was. All she wanted was to be remembered favorably, not as the mistake she had been taught to believe she was.

          Of course, nobody else was allowed to see this side of her. Historia was to remain hidden behind the facade that was Krista, forgotten and unseen. So she did the best she could to hide her seemingly uncalled for enthusiasm as she walked out to meet up with the rest of the squadron she'd be traveling with that day.

          The small blonde put on a small, soft smile as she approached the group, wondering whether or not she'd know anybody she had been assigned to work with. As she drew closer, she realized that she didn't recognize a single person she had been assigned to work with, which meant that she'd have to introduce herself. A slight frown replaced the smile on her face as she realized that all of the other members of her newly assigned team were too busy talking to each other to even notice she had arrived -- except for one, anyway. Large, azure orbs landed on another blonde girl, one who looked to be about her age. The slightest trace of a smile returned to the tiny female's features as she approached the girl with the braid.

         "H-hello! Have... have you been assigned to squad 12 as well?"
