The smallest dinosaur ever discovered. The skull of the small bird-like dinosaur Oculudentavis khaungraae was found preserved in amber dating back to about 99 million years ago. . Its skull calls into question the evolution of birds 🐦 . The small size of the skull suggests that it was about the size of a hummingbird, however, the position of its eye sockets reveal that it probably didn’t have binocular vision found in modern birds of prey that have eyes close to the front as opposed to their sides. . Thus, the fossil represents a unique stage in the evolution of birds since the skull also shows teeth that were present in larger avian-like dinosaurs (such as the feathered Archaeopteryx) that eventually evolved into modern day birds) suggesting that it probably hunted small insects. .
