The Four Sword. I'm a big fan on focusing on the "Four" part of that: the implications of one person being split into four people mind and soul, but "Sword" is the other part of the name - the part that really describes what it is rather than what it does.

A sword, unlike other weapons, is something invented explicitly for the sole purpose of violence. An axe started for cutting trees. Bows for hunting, or knives for cooking. A sword, is something that is made only for violence, for killing, for hurting. And with the Four Sword, we have four boys whose very lives, very existence is only because of a sword, this tool of violence, or at the very least of fighting.

Do they ever think about that? Wonder if, like the sword, they have no value other than in battle, fighting with that very sword?

The purpose of the Four Sword splitting is often seen simply as strength in numbers, to multiply the strength of the singular hero. People can argue that it can be a tool of self-reflection, letting someone see all of their parts, but that's not what the Four Sword's purpose is perceived to be by the characters - in the opening of Four Swords, when Zelda talks about the previous hero of the Four Sword, she says "and the four combined their strength!" This combination of power is what the Four Sword is good for, she is saying, why someone would ever use want to use it.

Outside of that, outside of being one of four to combine strength and defeat Vaati using their sword, a tool only for fighting; do they even matter?

They were made by a sword, made to fight, their very existence dependent on this sword; do they have any other purpose? Do they even have the right to have a life, to do something other than fight or are they just a weapon, just a tool for fighting like the sword that gave them life?

My own design for Four. Hes a lil eepy atm, dont mind him.

Listening to GG play Minish Cap had me thinking about the LinkedUniverse. Also liripipes. I think he'd look cute with the tail wrapped around his head to keep warm.

I like to think he has problems sometimes with the other parts of him so he uses drugs to keep everyone calm. He doesn't really use them when he's smithing tho.
