Broadway Across America: Fox Cities!
So, I did the thing. I purchased a season ticket package for the 2015-2016 Broadway Across America Season at the Fox Cities Performing Arts Center in Appleton, Wisconsin.
I purchased the 5-show package for myself and a friend who promptly reimbursed me for her tickets. Appleton is really close to my college town, and I couldn’t resist the temptation to be guaranteed to see Cinderella, which is currently at the top of my Musical Wish List, and Newsies (again!). I also get to see Kinky Boots, Motown, and possibly How the Grinch Stole Christmas the Musical. We’re considering selling the tickets for the Grinch to recoup some of our money, and it comes to us at a really busy time of year (finals, holidays, etc.)
So here’s the financial breakdown: We each spent $239 on our tickets. That comes out to about $48 dollars per ticket! That’s a pretty good deal!
Heads up, Fox Valley!
As I've mentioned several times before, I'm a poor college student. The university that I am currently poor because of is in a little town called Oshkosh, and it is one of many little towns in a part of Wisconsin called the Fox Valley. Side note: The Fox Valley is a river valley that follows the Fox River as it travels from Lake Winnebago all the way up to Green Bay (otherwise known as Titletown, USA home of the Green Bay Packers). There are six institutions for post-secondary education in the area, which means there are a lot of people here who are watching their budget just like me!
I have some fantastic news for the more than 300,000 residents of the Fox Valley! Today the Fox Cities Performing Arts Center announced it's 2015-2016 season in partnership with Broadway Across America-- and it is going to be an amazing season! This season includes Kinky Boots, How the Grinch Stole Christmas the Musical, Disney's Newsies (a personal favorite), Rodgers and Hammerstein's Cinderella (currently at the top of my wish list), Motown the Musical, and you can make it a six-show package with Chicago! If you choose to purchase a package, you will also have the opportunity to purchase tickets for a seventh show-- Disney's Beauty and the Beast!
I'm from Milwaukee, WI and I will be able to attend Disney's Newsies there with my family if and only if I don't study abroad for three weeks next semester. However, there are no timing issues for me with the entirety of the season at the FCPAC. I may purchase a package, and if I do I'll make another blog post about the affordability of the Broadway Across America package. If my study abroad opportunity falls through, I may end up seeing Newsies twice next year and I certainly wouldn't be complaining!
As of right now, I can put it in a ballpark for you all that the cheapest packages allow you to attend the shows for about $50 dollars each. That's pretty reasonable when you consider the experiences that you get! If you don't want to purchase the whole package you may also have the opportunity to get rush tickets for individual shows. The rush policy at the FCPAC dictates that you must have a valid student ID and the tickets are $25 cash.
The Fox Valley may be a mostly rural area, but the FCPAC certainly packs a punch!
