30. “Is that blood?”

When James comes home after a long shift, the last person he expects to find in his kitchen is Regulus Black. Moonlight cuts across his pale skin and slices through his curls.

“Hello.” He leans against the counter with his arms crossed, watching as James drops a few bags of groceries on the worktop.

“Is that blood?” asks James, waving a flippant hand towards the splatter on Regulus’ shirt. “You’re getting sloppy, love.”

Regulus plucks the fabric away from his abdomen. He scrunches his nose. “This one fought me a bit.”

“You couldn’t wait a few more hours for me to get home?”

“We were gone on our trip for ages.”

James rolls his eyes. He stores celery and cucumbers in the fridge, then sets four cartons of milk on the counter in a neat row. “Seriously? It was less than three days.”

“Which is a long time for me.”

“Apparently.”

Milk in the fridge, apples in the bowl on the countertop, new loaf in the bread box. James carefully folds the bags, then stows them in a cupboard above the coffee pot. Only then does he hop up on the kitchen island, shrug off his jacket, and yank the neckline of his thin shirt down his shoulder.

“Come on, then,” he mutters, rolling his eyes again for good measure. He tilts his head to expose his throat. “Unless you’re all full up on…?”

“Gas attendant,” Regulus finishes blandly. He pushes off the counter to stand between James’ thighs. They’re eye level like this, and he takes James’ chin firmly in hand to make the angle of James’ head more comfortable for them both. “They taste terrible. I don’t know why I keep bothering, but it’s convenient to stop for gas and a bit of food at the same time. That’s what Sirius says, anyway.”

James fists his hands in Regulus’ shirt when warm lips descend on his pulse point. His breath quickens; he knows by the grin spreading slowly over his skin that Regulus registered the stutter of his heartbeat.

“And do you think Sirius is right?” he gasps.

“Not even a little bit. The best meal in the world is always waiting for me right here at home.”

Then sharpened canines sink into James’ skin. God, he missed this — the harsh sting followed by wonderful warmth that radiates all over his body. He slides a hand up Regulus’ chest to wind his fingers through silky curls, and his eyelids flutter shut the longer Regulus drinks his fill.

And as the world grows fuzzy around the edges, everything a bit like technicolor, James murmurs, “Welcome home, love. I missed you.”

4. a story idea you haven’t written yet

My drarry soulmate au, I have written bits and pieces, and the first two pages of the first chapter but all I have is a vague idea of the plot and zero chapter planning lmao. I do love that story however, because i play with hot/cold dynamics and a lot of angst heheh It's a story I would like to see come to fruition but with my current wips i have zero mental energy atm. Perhaps next year!

oooooooh very intruiging. very much so, yes. yes. always gotta love james pushing and challenging the boundaries if he's in a lower position that the half of the dynamic, regulus here. i can totally see reg having slipped into teaching because initially he's like a researcher or something but if he wants to get that dough from the university to help support his projects he gotta teach a few classes in return. like he couldnt give a shit less about his students but then james is just a full on wake up slap in the face. it's impossible to ignore him and he's totally weaseling his way into regulus' daily thoughts. while he's correcting papers and thinking of something james had tried to argue with him about during a lecture. when he's getting groceries, walking by the fruit aisle and thinking of james peeling clementines (regulus always smells it all the way to the front, the distinct scent wafting in his direction without anywhere to flee). when he's fresh out of the shower on a sunday morning, the sun is gentle and he's wrapping a hand around where he's filling out and suddenly he thinks of james' smile and *gunshot*,,,,,, and james is just sooo horny for this mildly suicidal looking, resting bitchface, never happy, meek ghost of a man. his pretentious fucking turtle necks and slacks and dress shoes and his scowly face and his knobby slender fingers that are almost as pale as the chalk he's scribbling with on the blackboard. he wants to get a reaction out of him sooooo bad. james wants to see what he looks like smiling, snorting, grinning, ugly laughing. wants to see him giggle and hold his stomach and also see him lashes fluttering and moaning helplessly, whimpering when james is deep ins-*GUNSHOT*

Wip ask game! Blanket and smell

but there was a smell ✅

James closed his eyes and breathed in the cold air, mixed with the smell of surrounding farms. He remembered that scent from the trips with his parents and he associated it with fun no school times and petting as many animals as he could. He would always say to his mum that when he grows up, he will own a farm of his own and she would laugh and promise to make dad help him out during the lambing season. Now these were just painful memories that added gasoline to his roaring anxiety.
