Closet romantics hiding every emotion and fear from the gaze of their world to protect their beating hearts from being made fun of, seeking a way out from hiding, pressing pillows to their faces to keep from being spotted. Wearing boots and leather, pounds of make up disguising their spirits from being seen, for underneath are kids enduring the storms of growing up in the dark and cold weather which relentlessly pound and beat their bodies down altogether. Retrograde or excuse called maturation, whatever words justify the pain of feeling numb or overwhelmed by the endless cycle of up and down while being stretched past breaking too many times, taking pills and drinking coffee to hide the catatonic mess that is what’s left of their inner child, sad, way too sad to ask for help in spite of the genuine sitting right beside them, going through the same war, here on earth, isolated in fear and anxiety, filled with voices gripping their brains, pure insanity, so called life feeling like death piled on top of heavy bones worn out by the nether. Depression and apathy paired with intoxication and prescribed ‘sanity’, starting at ages past three . . . What a wonderful world, I hear some say, while hiding their true selves from being seen, fraudulent attempts at being strong to protect others from the catastrophe followed by blind panic. If any of this hurts, alienates, or is too real . . .
