Sooo, I'm curious!
What's a Pokemon you think would be incredibly frickin' cool to have, but caring for one is absolutely not in the cards right now?
Hi there!
Name's Fran/Frank/Frankie/hey-you-there (they/them); finally got talked into making a rotomblr account, what with ScraftyArt and the Pidgey App being pretty much unusable these days.
I've been a Pokemon trainer for *checks notes* ... 18 years now? Yikes.
Started my journey in Hoenn, but I've been pretty much all over the place. Did the whole gym challenge thing in a couple places as a young 'un and was actually pretty successful, but in the end I just... don't really enjoy constantly challenging myself all that much I guess?
Got roped into various research projects over the years, but my real love is the intersection of media and history, and the development and propagation of handwriting! Which I should be writing a thesis about that I'm definitely not procrastinating on by traveling a lot.
I've caught dozens of Pokemon over the years, most of which are on permanent loan to the various Professors whose research I was helping with -- but the ones that'll show up here most are my Gardevoir (who's been with me since the very beginning; helps me put battle-eager twerps in their place and supports me in keeping my ADHD-addled brain on straight), my Unown (obviously), Duskull (whom I befriended by hanging out in Mt. Pyre doing research for a few weeks), Ribombee (just a lil' guy) and Sinistea (who possessed my favorite teacup like a jackass, so I caught it; turnabout is fair play).
Pokemon that are around but not exactly mine include a firmly retired Blaziken, and a Mimikyu -- both of whom are really more family Pokemon.
FAQ: Q: Dude, you did gym challenges with that team? A: Nah, my ace trainer team was a lot more balanced.
Q: Thank Arceus, I almost thought someone was out there taking on gym leaders with a ribombee. A: ... So, about that...
Q: Do you not give your Pokemon names? A: They all have names, but I'm not just gonna put identifying information out there on the internet?? Did your parents never give you the privacy safety talk??? my goodness.
Q: So what was your first-ever Pokemon? A: Torchic! He's a Blaziken now and honestly getting kinda ancient, so he's enjoying a nice, calm retirement at home. Has been for longer than he'd been an actively battling Pokemon, honestly.
Q: What's your favorite type? A: None, honestly... but I keep ending up with ghosts and fairies somehow. There's a lot of steel pokemon I adore, too, but I currently don't really have the motivation or time to take care of an Aggron or a Skarmory.
i often wish there was a "proship" gc or sever, ik there's like specific ones for ships but like what abt a space in general to gush abt the favs...
Victini - What's your philosophy in regards to winning?
Winning's nice - and as a trainer, sometimes winning pays for dinner.
But at the end of the day, I value good sportsmanship over victory; and I'm aiming to entertain more than I aim to win, honestly -- in anything I do, but with Pokemon battles, specifically. Especially because, let's face it, Pokemon battles are inherently just a little camp; like wrestling or somethin'. Sure, it's about strategy and skill and stuff, but it's also about putting on a good show, for your opponent if nothing else.
I'm not generally a loud or exuberant person; I'm a notorious navel-gazer, and while I think I understand people in theory, I usually prefer observing them from a distance. A friendly battle is my opportunity to ham it up a bit, put on a big personality for a couple minutes. It's fun!
("But Frankie," you might say, "have you ever considered doing contests? They seem like exactly what you're talking about" -- yes, sure, about a decade and a half ago in Hoenn, but the structured, official nature of it all gives me stage fright in a way even league battles don't)
(@wingsofachampion) Hiya! What's your favorite thing about humans? -Tropius
Thanks for sending this in!
I guess it's just the inherent... unfathomableness of human existence?
Like, you know how you have this rich inner life, an incredible wealth of memories, experiences and knowledge, and every single second you compute more environmental data than anything (non-sentient, at least (*cough* Porygon *cough*)) we've ever developed technologically?
And that's just. Everyone. Every single person that's ever existed, from a ten-year-old with a barely-trained pidgey standing around waiting for someone to accidentally glance at them all the way to fuckin'. Steven Stone or whatever. They're all just such an immeasurably massive collection of perfectly unique data. Billions of people. Stretching back a million years or more. An uncountable number of thoughts and feelings and experiences, all equally important (or unimportant, I guess, but I'm an optimist at heart) in the face of a vast universe.
Like, fuck, isn't that beautiful?
