April 28 - Part 2

After leaving the nightclub, the duo walk around Windenburg. It's a beautiful place, Lurch thinks. He could almost suggest he and Annalise move there and he would but he knows Annalise wouldn't want to move away from her sister.

The night flows quietly before Lurch feels it's the right time.

"Annalise." Lurch takes her hand into his after stopping in front of her. She smiles at him and his heart does that fluttery thing he feels everytime he sees her. "I love you. I have since the moment I saw you. There was no way to fight it and frankly, I didn't want to." He pauses a moment and takes a deep breath. It's been over a year since he told Annalise how he feels. There's been hurdles since then but also good times between them.

"Frances?" Annalise asks. She hadn't suspected anything until this moment. If her heart could beat, it would be almost doing a flip out of her chest.

Lurch rubs her knuckles soothingly with his thumb and smiles at her. "I can't picture my life without you." He whispers before slowly letting go of her hand and getting down on one knee.

A loud gasp escapes Annalise's lips. Her hand trembles as she touches where her heart almost feels like it's beating again.

"Will you do me the great honor of allowing me to become your husband?" Frances asks her earnestly. He looks so happy. Before now the thought of getting married again scared her and filled with her anxiety but in that moment, none of those feelings were to be found. Only pure joy and love is what Annalise could feel.

"Yes!" Flies from her lips with no reservations.

The happy newly engaged couple celebrate together. Just the two of them. Some happiness in the midst of what has been a hard year already.

April 28 - Part 1

Tonight is the night. Lurch has planned a romantic evening for Annalise and himself. He plans to propose. Things have gone extremely well between the two of them since they reunited last month. Some may think he may be rushing things but Jackson's passing has taught him that time is truly a gift that can be taken away at anytime. For mortals and immortals. He doesn't want to waste anymore time. He wants Annalise to be his wife. To declare in the most public way possible how much he loves her and vow to be with her until his last breath.

The couple start with a nice dinner out. Since it's a bit overcast and rainy, they even got to sit outside. Lurch thinks Annalise looks absolutely stunning and tells her as much.

They go on a stroll in the rain. They talk, they laugh. Lurch hopes his proposal later is a romantic surprise for his love. They try to do things together when they can. Annalise does keep pretty busy with her work at the hospital. She also spends time with her sister, Liberty, which Lurch fully supports. Family is important.

The couple go to the vampire nightclub. Not really their scene but they can dance there. Something they both enjoy. Annalise even gets the DJ to play some classical music so she can slow dance with her Frances. She relishes being close to him. Annalise knows she craves him. Not his blood, but him. His mere presence soothes her and offers her strength. Her relationship with him is so different from any other one she's had in her entire existence. If soul mates truly exists, then Frances is hers. She knows this with every fiber of her being. Having him love her and then being apart of him had proved it it to her. She tries not to let herself think about that one day. When he has to leave for good. She doesn't know how she'll survive it. Right now, she just wants to enjoy what they have.

February 5

It's a cold Winter's day in Forgotten Hollow, though Jackson Kumar can no longer feel the cold. It's one of the things he doesn't miss about being human.

"You're one hundred percent sure on your decision, Lurch? Because you know Annalise is going to ask you that." Jackson assures his mortal friend. They had been discussing the pros and cons of vampirism vs being human for months. Deep down Jackson kind of wished he would of had someone to talk about it before his decision. He doesn't regret his choice - mostly. Ever since Livvie had shown back up in his life, he had been having some thoughts of what if he had remained human but things can't be changed. 

"I'm positively sure, Jackson." Lurch says with determination. He had done his research for months and thought about it long and hard, as Annalise had asked him to way back in November. 

"You know I'll help you anyway I can afterwards." Jackson offers. He's thankful for the surprising friendship he's found with Lurch. It's nice having someone else to talk to besides Lilith, as much he loves her - there's things she doesn't understand due to being born so long ago - in his opinion.

Lurch nods his head with a small smile, now he just has to tells Annalise his choice and he knows it's going to still be a battle getting her to accept it. He has to wait until tomorrow because Annalise will be working all night. The wait will feel like forever to him but soon he hopes to find out what forever actually feels like.

February 6 - Part 1

As Lurch predicted, getting Annalise to try to accept his decision becomes a battle. The couple had been getting ready to go out to a late lunch at a nice restaurant in San Myshuno that Annalise wants Lurch to try. His declaration that he is sure he wants to become a vampire had halted their plans.

"You aren't respecting my decision." Lurch tells the woman beside him. It hurts. It feels like she doesn't want him to be with her for the rest of their days. 

Annalise frowns and wraps her arms around herself. "I'm sorry if it comes off that way but I don't want you to end up like me, Frances. I don't want you to regret your choice someday. Once it's done, there is not coming back from it."

"I know that." Lurch assures her. He isn't sure how he can make her see how much he wants to be with her for hundreds or maybe even thousands of years.

"I love you." Annalise says softly "I know you want us to be together, which I do too. I hope you know that." She pauses, glancing over at him. 

"Then why are you not going to change me so I can be immortal like you are? You won't have to watch me grow old and grey...well more grey and die." Lurch asks his love, he doesn't understand this at all.

"Just because you become a vampire doesn't mean you're invincible. It's harder for you to be killed and you can't die from diseases but you aren't automatically indestructible, despite the vibe some vampires give off." Annalise informs him. She thinks briefly of her ex-husband Asa and how James is using him to try to find a cure to vampirism. If he can, then maybe she can escape the fate she sealed for herself and she can have a normal life with Lurch someday. She wants to tell Frances about it but she promised not to say anything. Not only that but if James finds out Lurch knows, it could put him in danger. 

Lurch is quite, thinking over what she just said.

He isn't sure what to say. He feels the tears sting his eyes and he hides his face to hide them. He feels Annalise move closer to him and hug him, leaning her head on his shoulder which somehow makes it even harder for him though he knows she's trying to comfort him.

"I'm sorry." Annalise whispers softly to Frances. She hates that this is hurting him but she feels she's sparing him in the long run. She hopes one day he can see that.

March 8

The news of Jackson's death has been a huge shock and blow to Frances Lurch. He had found an unlikely friendship with Jackson, in fact Jackson had become one of his only friends outside of Annalise. He felt he could talk to Jackson about anything. The last conversation he had in person with Jackson kept playing in his mind as well as Annalise's words from when they last parted.

“Just because you become a vampire doesn’t mean you’re invincible."

Now Lurch sees that and it has made him think long and hard about things.

That's what made him knock on Annalise's door and ask to speak with her after weeks apart.

"I don't want to be apart from you anymore." Lurch tells her honestly. What has it accomplished? Nothing. Just time wasted. Time he doesn't have and Annalise may not either.

"I feel the same way." Annalise says holding his hands. She looks at him with sympathy and love. She knows he was close to Jackson and that his death has impacted Lurch. She also hates she hurt him when she turned down his request to become a vampire but she's trying to protect him.

"I've done a lot of thinking and if not even becoming a vampire can guarantee we won't be torn apart by death, I would rather remain human." Lurch tells her. He hadn't come to the conclusion easily but Jackson had told him about what it was like after he turned. The blood lust.  The no longer feeling the sun warm your skin. The feeling of being stuck in time not able to move forward. Lurch would have done it to be with Annalise but now he sees even a vampire's existence can be a fragile thing. 

Annalise pulls Lurch into a hug so fast it almost makes his head spin. She's careful not to crush him with relief she feels at his words. No, she does not want him to grow old and die but she doesn't want him to go through changing into a vampire and existing as one either. He's too precious of a soul for that in her book.

Lurch surprises both himself and Annalise when he spins her around after she releases him and plants the most passionate kiss he has ever given her on her lips. It's the kind of kiss that holds promises of tomorrow and love that burns true. The couple agree to continue their courtship with a new hope in their hearts for something happy after so much heartbreak.

February 14 – Part 3

--Warning, there is a pixel woohoo situation below the cut. Also alludes to an actual tragic event in US history, but the name was changed.

Dominic Frenz surprises his wife, Zoe, with a puppy, in hopes it will make their home filled with a bit of laughter. They name the puppy Magnus. Dominic had seen him in the paper as part of the local shelter's Love Day drive to find dogs and cats new homes.

They've been trying for a baby for months with no results.

They aren't giving up. After getting their new puppy settled in, the couple spend most of their day working on hopefully adding another new family member to their home.

In Forgotten Hollow, Count Straud is getting ready for his evening. It's one of the very few events he actually enjoys attending.

Vladislaus briefly smiles. Very briefly. "I'm off to the celebration of the Saint Valentine's Day Bloodbath. It was a glorious day all those years ago."

Liberty makes a face. The idea of seven people lining the streets with their blood actually isn't appealing to her and you would think it would be as a vampire.

"Lightweight." The Count says, judging her. He presses his lips into a firm line. "I suppose you and that thing you call a husband are going to soil every surface in my home tonight? I'll have to have the maids do a double cleaning tomorrow."

Liberty sighs and shakes her head. "No. I'm going to spend the night with my sister."

This instantly improves Count Straud's mood.

True to her word, Liberty does indeed spend the night at Annalise's.

The sisters watch silly movies from the 80's and 90's and eat ice cream, even though they can barely taste it. They give each other pedi's and trade stories about growing up with their Mom. Liberty knows James was probably planning something for Love Day - he normally does. Many wouldn't think it but James does have a bit of romantic streak. Annalise needs her more though and after not being able to be there for her sister for so long, she isn't going to miss out on the opportunity to do so now.

Elsewhere in Forgotten Hollow, Lurch is cleaning the Vatore Mansion. Even though he declined Jackson and Lilith's offer to stay at the house, he did take them up on the offer to clean it. It's income for him as he's no longer cleaning Annalise's home - for now. He just needs some time to process his thoughts and feelings. He doesn't want to lose Annalise forever - well his forever. It still hurts him that she won't change him but he can't force her to do so. He wouldn't dream of asking any other vampire to change him either.

March 29

On a gloomy day in Ravenwood, Jackson Kumar's memorial service is being held in his hometown. Despite not having his body released by Lilith, his friends Olivia and Lurch went ahead with a service for him, wanting not only some kind of closure for themselves but to pay respect to their loved one.

Annalise was going to accompany Lurch today but got called into the Hospital on an emergency. Lurch understands, it's her job and passion - it's one of the things he loves about her.

"I'll go first, you take some time to try to collect yourself." Lurch tells Olivia, trying to comfort her. The poor thing hasn't stopped crying since the moment they stepped into the funeral home. Both of them are supposed to speak at the service then it's open to anyone else who wants to say something.

Mourners arrive and the staff of the funeral home thankfully greet them while Lurch goes over what he wants to say and Olivia tries to calm herself. All she can think about today is her last meeting with Jackson. She had felt such hope when they parted. Now it's dead along with Jackson. She feels guilt. She wonders if her telling him about seeing Lilith with Vladislaus Straud led to his demise. Maybe if she hadn't set him on that path he'd still be alive? Or what passes for alive for a vampire, but he'd still be here. She'd still get to hear him call her Livvie.

"Jackson and I didn't set out to be friends but I'm glad it happened. He put up with me asking him endless questions about when he became a vampire. Listened to my romantic woes. We used to play chess for hours. I listened to his college stories and helped him get better at making plasma janes. He's one of the few good friends I've ever had in my life. I wanted..." Lurch pauses and takes a deep breath before letting it out slowly. The fact that Jackson is gone truly hitting him. "I had planned to ask him to be my best man when I get married someday."

Lurch turns to the urn he and Olivia had selected for their friend, though it's empty. He folds his hands and gives a nod to the urn before looking across the room to the collection of photos Olivia had pieced together for the memory board. All of them from Jackson's younger years. "See you later, friend." Lurch whispers before stepping down from the podium. 

The trip up to the podium feels like years to Olivia. She sees her brother August and it helps her feel slightly better. Most of the people in the building she hasn't seen since college, outside of Joey Gates. Joey wasn't close to her or Jackson during college but she appreciates him showing up to honor Jackson.

"A moment of silence for the departed." Olivia says quietly. Moments slowly pass by before she lifts her head and tries to breathe. "I'm not really sure how to sum up everything. Because I can't. I don't know how I would have made it through college without him. Not only was he my boyfriend then but he was my best friend." Olivia pauses and sniffles back some tears that threaten to fall. "We went our separate ways but recently found each other again. Even though this hurts like hell I'm thankful we did. I'm glad I got to see him again. We both had changed a bit but deep down we were still the same souls." At that point she stops because her words are coming out more like cries than anything. She steps down and goes directly to August who wraps her up in his arms and comforts her while she cries.

The others come forwards and pay their respects.

After that Olvia doesn't remember much, there's some food she doesn't eat. Chats she don't recall and a drive home to Willow Creek that she don't remember because she falls asleep with her head against the car window. Thankfully August is the one driving and not her. He's agreed to stay the night at her house. Not only will he not have to drive back to Brindleton Bay in the dark but she won't be alone.

For some reason stepping into her house makes her break. She doesn't know why. Maybe because it's finally done? Though it's not. Not until Lilith let's Jackson's body be buried. Maybe that's what is upsetting her. That he can't lay at rest yet. Or maybe it's the fact that she feels like so much was ripped away from her.

August does his best to comfort his sister. He doesn't feel like he's doing the best job of it. Between Olivia losing Jackson and Paris losing her birth mother, he feels like a cloud of grief and sadness is hanging over the lives of the people around him.

The siblings talk. Mostly it's Olivia and August listens. He's fine with that, his sister needs to let it out and not keep it bottled up inside. At least one good thing has come from the situation, it's brought the Lewis siblings closer together.
