Expand on the positive and negative traits given in the bio:
+ polite - Francesca not only sat through her daily lessons from a young age on being a proper lady of “high birth,” she absorbed them. She allowed them to shape her behaviors. She knew precisely what was the proper thing to say in every situation, if there were an adult or her parents within possible earshot she always conducted herself in the most polite manner. However, it was possible for her to turn her politeness into fury in half a second given the right provocation.
+ cute - Francesca has a natural charm about her, an easy laugh and an infectious smile that she’s quick to share. With her slight frame and her big brown eyes she seemed to project an air of sweetness. With an infectious joy for life and enthusiasm for the things she enjoys. She often tried to bring a bit of joy to the tasks she found mundane or irritating with random song she makes up.
+ traditional - Children were created to be seen and not heard; a woman was designed to submit to a man in all things. Were just a few of the things she was taught as a child. Despite having grown up since arriving at Hogwarts she still holds fast to her family’s ideas on marriage and blood purity. For her marriage is security within the world she has always existed in. It was good for her parents and as in all things she thought she could improve on her parents example.
- improperly curious - From a young age Francesca had to know everything about everyone. She knew was considered improper for a man to have so much knowledge, but knowledge was power. Power was the equivalent of superiority and with her impeccable bloodlines superior is exactly how Francesca considered herself. She had no desire to be the source of gossip, simply to be in the know before things we’re public knowledge. To be able to belittle another for being in the dark about something she considered common knowledge.
- outwardly submissive - At a young age she had mastered the art of submitting. It was, after all, what a proper young lady did and she strove to be picture of perfection in all things. However, being at Hogwarts had given her a new view on the world, she realized that she could be a good wife and a proper lady while still having her own ideas. It was just a matter of how one went about getting their way. So while on the outside it may appear she spent her time submitting, her mind never stopped working and she had become a master of making someone else think it was their idea all along.
- anxious - Francesca had never been known for her patience. As a child she always had a mental countdown to her birthday and Christmas. She knew it wasn’t exactly considered ladylike, but she had absolutely no desire to wait for the things she wanted. She wanted them now and she was not above using subversive methods to get them if that’s what was necessary. Tears and yelling were not in the list of things that she had been taught were acceptable, but what her parents didn’t know couldn’t hurt them, right? For now, she simply wanted her own betrothal. Each time she heard someone new was betrothed she felt like another thread of her patience snapped; she wasn’t sure how much of that thread remained before she would lose it.
-childish - Francesca holds a wide-eyed innocence about the world. She sees things with a black and white view. She can’t possibly understand why the muggleborns don’t understand that they could never be the equivalent of someone of her status. She understood that the world around her seemed to be changing, but for her it was never a question of what side she stood on, she stood with her family, with the ones she cared for, and most importantly with the men she wished to create a betrothal contract with.
History:
The only child of Francis and Alessandra Bulstrode. From the time she was old enough to listen, Francesca began to learn not only the importance that being one of the sacred twenty-eight, but the privilege and duties bestowed upon her by her status. Francesca began to learning to play the violin at the age of three, ballroom dancing was added into her lessons a year later. Since Alessandra grew up in a home where only Italian was spoken, Francesca was bilingual from the time she began speaking and by the time she reached school age she was learning French as well.
In her quiet moments Alessandra painted, Francesca found herself fascinated by this. She would sneak in the room and hide behind the potted palm and watch. Her mother’s strokes were exact and precise. At the end of each session her mother wiped the canvas clean and hid her supplies away again. When Francesca got brave she once asked her mother why she never displayed her artwork. Only to find herself tucked back into the nursery alone for three days. When her mother finally returned to her she explained quite frankly that it was impolite to spy on other people. Her father did not approve of frivolous art pursuits.
In the evenings, after her parents had retired after supper she found herself retreating the library. She would sing whatever silly song she made up at the time and climb the ladder if it pleased her. The library in their manor was the one place she felt the most Francesca like. She made her way through the entirety of the novels in the library and was climbing in search of something that wasn’t history or a spellbook when she stumbled upon a secret compartment. To her utter surprise and delight the hidden cubby hole held several hand written diaries. She whiled away hours translating them from Italian and reading and re-reading her great, great grandmother’s journey. Her thoughts, hopes, wishes. Moving from Italy to England, the terrors and the joys of a new husband she had never met. Francesca found herself amazed and beside herself that the only place this utterly fascinating woman had felt she could express herself was in a book she kept hidden so no one would ever read it.
Francesca’s socialization was handled very carefully by her mother. Never exposing her to playmates outside the sacred twenty-eight. Francesca could dance the perfect waltz, pour the perfect tea, and host the most amazing balls. Both of her parents quite frequently lectured her on the duties and responsibilities she had. She may have mastered the tasks put in front of her, but none of those lessons meant anything if she could not secure a betrothed within the sacred twenty-eight. Securing a betrothal with all the tools they had given her was to be her number one priority. Receiving her Hogwarts letter felt like the first opportunity to prove to her parents that she had truly absorbed everything she had learned. Arriving at Hogwarts and being sorted into Slytherin felt like step one towards her goal. Aligning herself with the right friends within her house was step two. Francesca was amazed at the other girls around the castle, so different from herself. She never allowed a hair out of place, never less than her best fashion foot forward, it would never do to have a potential suitor see her in less than ideal condition.
Francesca was dismayed to discover that there were several girls within her social realm who already head desirous betrothal contracts. Clearly, she was already behind in this situation. Rather than give into the jealousy that seemed to be rising up inside her she decided to view it as a challenge to be conquered. She could afterall sample and get to know the boys that were available at Hogwarts and hopefully she could have her pick. If all these boys got to know her at Hogwarts where she wasn’t a simpering miss just maybe she’d manage to have a marriage where she and her husband conversed.
Francesca spent her life at Hogwarts making friends, learning all she could from Alecto Carrow. She realizes she has made one of the most dangerous allies in the castle. While she’s happy to spend her time charming students and finds no shame in cutting them down for their less than superior bloodlines or mere stupidity. She’s the least likely Slytherin to torture another student, she’s found she can get her way without magic. She prefers to use magic for less sinister things.
The Details (THESE ARE ALL OPTIONAL TO FILL OUT):
Wand: Hornbeam, 10 1/4, dragon heartstring
Amortentia:
snowfall: You could attempt to tell her it doesn’t have a scent, but she would argue that your senses are clearly not as sensitive as hers. She once read a novel with snow and a man holding his beloved to keep her warm. Since that moment snow and romance have been synonymous in her mind.
chocolate: From a young age Francesca loved chocolate, it was also something she was not allowed to partake in. A proper lady understood that chocolate could adversely affect her figure. But that didn’t decrease her love for it.
fresh linens: nothing was better than returning to your bed and finding that it had clean sheets, the smooth feel the overwhelming fresh scent
Boggart: Francesca would never forget the day that they did faced the Boggart in DADA. She had expected to see a dragon after all they were the things of nightmares since she was only a little girl. However, when she stepped up to the front of the line and it turned into a wedding dress her classmates had laughed. She felt stricken as she saw the empty dress in front of her. It was so similar to the one she’d been drawing pictures of since she was a young girl. Lace, beaded, dramatic, except what made her pale and terrified. The dress was not on herself, not it was yellowed and clearly never used. Francesca’s greatest fear was to never be married and it had taken her multiple tries before she could turn it into the most garish pink ruffled monstrosity she could imagine.
Patronus: Francesca cannot cast a patronus currently. However, if she ever masters it it would be an Arctic Fox - Cunning, stealth, persistence. The arctic fox is infinitely adaptable, living its life in one of the world’s most extreme climates. Arctic fox people tend to be sly, graceful, and have a near magic ability to make something out of nothing, utilizing even the most limited of resources. Arctic fox as a totem can teach us the ability to go with the flow of life, changing ourselves to suit our ever-evolving environments.
