— MAGICAL INNOVATIONS BY THE SERPENTS.
“Absinditum” ( undetectable alcohol charm ) — causes alcohol to look and smell like water to everyone other than the person drinking it
invented mostly by Theo when he wanted to bring his flask with him to history of magic class—to get him through the snoozefest without any risk of detention ( truly brilliant charm invention with the least noble motivation. typical )
“Honoris Tesseca” ( dice game anti-cheating charm )
invented mostly by Draco after he got tired of the rest of the Slytherins cheating one too many times at dice and making him lose (wimp) (big baby) (take it on the chin like the rest of us)
“Mutatio Pulmentum” ( eyeshadow color changing charm )
invented mostly by Astoria & Pansy—the whole lot of us are prissy about our makeup, we kept getting frustrated with our makeup looks after they were already done, and wanted to be able to change the color scheme after it was already on our faces. this charm has spared us of a couple meltdowns before events
“Resipisco” ( immediate sobriety charm )
invented mostly by Blaise & Enzo because of the Slytherin boys’ drinking habits and, more specifically, the risks they pose during our stuffy pureblood family events ( if anyone got caught stumbling around and embarrassing their parents they’d get hexed into next week )
“Senodaris” ( self-brushing hair charm )
there’s nothing quite so eyeroll-inducing as arriving back at your dorm after a long day, or a night of drinking, and realizing that you still have to brush your hair. at least for us, which is why Daphne invented this charm when we unanimously agreed it was too much trouble
“Strua Sublevaris” ( menstrual cramp alleviation charm )
invented mostly by Pansy and Millicent when all of the girls’ periods synced up one summer and began heavily and irritatingly interfering with our dueling (pain is fine, distracted dueling is NOT)

Drarry Fic Rec: “And the Draco Complex” by Vigiliae_Noctis
This is a phenomenal ongoing two-part Drarry fic by @vigiliae-noctis where they’re soulmates. It squeezes a secret relationship between them into canon events, starting with book 5 and extending into 8th year. Rated M. It has some of the best redemption arc development for Draco that I’ve ever read, and the mutual pining is delicious! There are some amazing scenes where they discuss and challenge each other’s worldviews.
The first part is mostly from Harry’s POV and the second part, titled “There Is No Denying,” is mostly from Draco’s POV, though there are a few chapters from Ron’s and Hermione’s POVs. The second part fills in canon gaps brilliantly, as it follows Draco’s character growth at Hogwarts in 7th year during Harry’s absence, including his complex relationships with the other Slytherins (all of whom are well fleshed out as individual characters). There are also some amazing lore and character expansions woven into the story, including some truly disturbing characterization for Goyle and an unexpectedly awesome backstory for the Fat Lady - and a few details compliant to All The Young Dudes since the author is a fan.
Other ships included: Harry is established to have been infatuated with Cedric during book 4. Romione is not endgame in this fic; Ron & Hermione are each given very different romance side plots, including a brief bit of unrequited Harmione from her side. There is some brief Dransy and Hinny (but Drarry are still pining for each other the whole time). Past Wolfstar mentioned.
I love this fic so much that parts of it have already become absorbed into my headcanon. If you’re a Drarry shipper, go read this masterpiece ASAP!
Edit 6/10/26: I’m now a proud Alpha Reader for this fic! Can’t wait for everyone to see what’s in store!

Slytherins as Greek “Villains”
Let me start by saying that I adore your meta. It's some of the most thorough, well-reasoned hp analysis I've come across & you have a talent for tenderly mining and polishing canon connections I've never considered. You've put into words so many of my feelings about drarry, hinny, and the characters as a whole -- why I love them, why I struggle with them, and why they still compel me after all these years. I'm slowly chipping away at your blog and won't stop until I get to page 1 I've found myself very taken with the Slytherins lately--especially characters like Millicent and Daphne, who are either offhand names or caricatures, as well as some of the older Slytherins we see mentioned, who seem to stay largely out of the war (or at least aren't important enough to it for a mention). There are a lot of widely accepted fanon personalities/interpersonal dynamics for the Slytherins, and they're always fun to delve into. But I often find myself struggling to separate canon from fanon. Do you have any thoughts on what we can extrapolate about the Slytherins in canon (apart from "mean, ugly, & stupid/vapid" as jkr describes nearly every Slytherin but Draco)? And if not, do you have any blogs/posts to recommend on the topic?
Wow. What can I even say. I've been staring at this ask since I received it feeling so warmed by your words. Thank you very much for such high compliments. It always thrills me to hear that people get some enjoyment/mental stimulation out of this blog and that my little ramblings are of interest to others.
To some extent, since the other Slytherins aren't that well developed (due to the fact that Harry was too busy constantly staring at Draco to notice anything about them - I mean he literally doesn't even know Theodore Nott's NAME till he sees him spending more time with Draco) there's a lot of room for people to come up with their own interpretations of their personalities.
That said, there is some info in canon we can go off of. For example, we see Pansy hanging out with Draco a lot more than Millicent or Daphne. We also know that none of their parents were Death Eaters. And given that Millicent and Daphne seem to stay away from Draco more later, maybe their families aren't quite as into the whole blood purist stuff as Pansy and her family are. Especially Daphne does not seem to really participate in any of the bullying we see a lot of the Slytherins take part in.
Personally, I always headcannoned that Daphne never liked Draco very much and that while she did hold some anti-muggle and anti-muggleborn biases (similar to those held by most of the wizarding world), her attitudes were more on the level of those held by Fudge or Crouch and she never actually went in for any of the really extremist blood purist beliefs or supported the Death Eaters or even had attitudes as extreme as Walburga Black (who thought the Death Eaters mostly had the right idea even if they went about it the wrong way). I also think she didn't much like the pettier behaviors Draco engaged in - the boasting, the bullying, the mockery, not to mention the weird Potter obsession - (or that the people Draco hung out with engaged in). I think she probably found him stuck up and arrogant and vaguely unsavory and tended to avoid him, even if she wasn't as horrified or enraged by him using slurs like Mudblood as someone like Ron or Harry would be.
I like the idea that after the war she and her sister changed their minds about their beliefs about muggles and muggleborns - even if they were never quite as extreme to begin with as those held by some. I headcanon that they two of them were both back at Hogwarts during Draco's 8th year - and that they actually ended up striking up a friendship - once the realized that he'd changed. After all, they were housemates for years. Plus they ran in similar social circles. And they all changed their minds, so that's a common bond. Daphne tells Draco point blank that she always thought he was a stuck up twat and Draco agrees that he was, which breaks the ice.
As for Pansy, I actually think she was more of a hanger on than a true friend. I think she and Draco drifted apart in 7th year. I don't especially like characterizations that whitewash the bad things she did - either the bullying or the bigotry or the "trying to hand harry in to Voldemort" thing - or that turn her into some ooc mary sue girlboss with no personality other than being a genius who is great at everything and also gets to be mean with no consequences because she's so cool so no one cares I guess. That's not to say I don't enjoy fics with Draco/Pansy friendship if it's done right. But yeah, based on actual canon I see her moving on to the next person once Draco's fortunes were shown to have irrevocably fallen by book 7. Plus it's arguable that she always expected to marry Draco since he was the best match (thru book 6 anyway) but that she always secretly harbored feelings for Blaise. And after the war she got to act on that. After all, in the train scene in book 6 she seems awfully interested in what girls Blaise likes.
For Millicent we have even less. We know she was a bully. I don't like seeing that ignored or seeing her girlbossified. I do like the idea of her going thru her own little redemption arc and trying to make something of herself. I also imagine that she and Draco kind of drifted apart though. I think she ever became a completely nice person, but I like the idea of her apologizing to Hermione and them ending up at the Ministry together and kind of tolerating each other - just one of the many instances of strange, uncomfortable relationships that pop up in the post-war wizarding society as it tries to put itself together.
As for Crabbe & Goyle, I really hate how often fandom seems to forget or gloss over the fact that both of them were actively participating in torturing other students and seemingly very into it. I think the way Draco treated them - as henchmen/servants - always grated on them but they accepted it due to the relative statuses of their families. When the power dynamic between them shifts though, starting book 6 but really post book 6, they seem to revel in Draco's degradation and fall from grace (and we even see hints of that earlier, like them laughing when Draco gets beaten up by Harry in book 5 and not intervening). I find that super fascinating, and I think they are darker, more twisted characters than people tend to give them credit for. Given all this, I don't see Draco and Goyle staying friends post war and I never get why Goyle having been an enthusiastic participant in the Death Eaters' crimes (in a way that Draco never was) so often gets forgotten. Usually post war he gets reduced to a simple minded sad boi who Draco needs to look after. And I'm just like ??? Where?? Especially given that the alternative provides so much more interesting story fodder.
SLYTHERIN HEADCANONS l Draco’s year + Astoria (canon-compliant minus the epilogue/The Cursed Child)
INTER DYNAMICS
sometimes hang out all together but some are closer than others: Pansy&Draco, Theo&Blaise, Goyle&Crabbe + Draco, Tracy&Daphnée, The Girls (+Blaise)
BLAISE ZABINI
- Zabini is his mother's surname (maiden name)
- Has veela blood from his mother's side
- Ms Vittoria Zabini went to Beauxbatons and she moved from Rome to London when Blaise was 10 bc she was engaged as a hitwoman by a woman-owned private compagny (women who didn't get justice against their aggressor - example : abusive ex- contact her and she uses her beauty to seduce them then kills them and takes their money 🤑)
- She grew up in a working class family in Naples and became rich by being a crook, using her beauty and spells to steal from men that were too enamoured with her to notice; she also modeled for a few magazines such as "Witch Weekly"
- Blaise has a disorted view of love (and of men) because of that
- He doesn't have any siblings but is close with his cousins back in Italy (some of his models of healthy masculinity along with Theodore)
- Him and his mother are particularly close and he tries to emulate (?) her
- tries to be nonchalant -and mostly succeeds
- if he's angry at someone, he won't yell but will be passive aggressive/ give the silent treatment
- Blaise came out as a trans guy at the end of 4rth year (it is way more accepted in the wizarding world and they have customized potions for it)
-> which means he shared a dorm with the slytherin girls for most of his time at school and is therefore closer to them than the boys in general, but has always been close to Theodore
- thinks Goyle and Crabbe are stupid and looks down on them
- Got to know Draco better after his transition and they dated after a few weeks of sharing a dorm
- Dated Draco in 5th year but they had a messy break up that ended ruining the vibe of the friendgroup at the end of the year - both are bitter - but after after their friends confronted them they made an effort to be "cordial" (tho they make passive agressive comments abt each other) - they become friends again a few years later
reasons for the break-up :
-> different vision of love based on their reference growing up (blaise : mother kills her husbands/draco : parents who love each other),
-> Blaise has a more pessimistic vision of love
-> they went through a honeymoon phase but since they started dating quickly after being in the same dorm, they didn't know each other that well so their personality clashed at times/they started finding some traits of the other annoying or even hurtful
-> Blaise was jealous of how much attention his boyfriend was giving Harry (even if negative, too much focus on one person)
-> they often fought over their different opinions of Death Eaters, whom Blaise looked down on - notely because he thinks its pathetic to follow a master (not out of love for Muggles let's be real, though he could find it too extremist)
-> Draco said "the l word" and was projecting with Blaise in the future (like he thought they were going to get married and all that) but Blaise was taken aback because, although he liked Draco and was attracted to him, he didn't feel like his feelings ran that deep
- their mothers became fast friends when they started dating -when lucissa open their relationship narcissa and her have an affair
- He'll become a model post-Hogwarts
- has a crush on Ginny Weasley but doesn't want to admit it (bc of the whole blood-traitor thing)
- will end up with Ginny and he gets along with Fleur (who also models but only part-time) and the two of them + Draco form a trio of the controversial partners at the Weasley family dinners lol
- plays the piano
AMELIA (NEE GREGORY) GOYLE
- used to have a crush on Draco, thinks he is very funny
- Went to the yule ball with Crabbe but didn't work out, still held a torch after that night
- has a signature expression that everyone finds extremely cringe
- a bit shy
- it was polyjuicing as girls for Draco's task that made the egg crack
- came out as a trans woman post-war
- pansy was very happy to give her a makeover
- bc of her (enjoyed) use of cruciatus : went to a rehabilitation program from the Ministry and discovered a taste for cooking there and learns to not just be a follower but also a leader (in her bakery)
- to canalize her violent pulsions, takes up boxing
- becomes a baker
- plays maracas
PANSY PARKINSON
- mall goth- witch edition
-hates the expectations that go with being a pureblood girl so she rebels against her parents by keeping her hair very short, wearing mostly black and being loud and not very studious
-that's why she goes do hard on Hermione : jealous of the freedom of half-blood/muggleborn girls
-4 older sisters that do fit the pureblood tradwife
-not close to her parents so she transfers her love of family to her friends and is very affectionate and caring
- has the same bob and microbangs since she’s a kid and only time she let her her grow for a change (during the summer before 6th year), her friends almost didn’t recognize her (she cut it back on day 2)
-mom friend
-was childhood friends with Parvati Patil but they grew apart when they got into enemies houses and Pansy got mean (maybe she was always like that but Parvati saw a new side of her she didn't know before cause they had 1on1 friendly interactions)
-very sociable
- dates ginny post war but doesn't last long : she doesn't wanna settle and prefers short and passionate relationships
- has a bat instead of an owl
-used to have a crush on draco and kissed once at the yule ball but didn't work out (Draco’s a homo…)
-sex friends with blaise in 6th year
-drama queen
-big gossip
-loves trashy vampire x wixen romance novels
-has a crush on snape (so goth! he's her inspo)
-has a crush on Lucius and jokes to Draco about it (he finds it so gross lol)
-asian : philipina x korean
-one of her ancestor a looooong time ago invented a spell to neutralize their adversaries (?) so that they would drop their wands but fucked up and it muted into a genetic illness so they named it after him since he was forced to declare it (Parkinson disease)
-becomes a celebrity gossip journalist (witchy weekly)
-future wine aunt
-party girl
- is very close to her korean grandparents -who are hippies and live in the korean countryside and often goes there (and invites her friends, especially Draco) during the hols
- plays the contrebass -> when she's an adult will learn the bass
VINCENT CRABBE
- felt confused with his feelings about Goyle, wondered if he was bi (is actually straight but Goyle came out after his death so he never found out...)
- eastern european origins : bielarussian
- has a very naive vision of death/violence, doesn't think ahead of the consequences of his actions
- find goyle's expression super cringe but end up accidently adopting it from being around her so much
- mostly followed draco for the social advantages : he found him funny but often annoying as well
- plays the triangle
MILICENT BULSTRODE
-youngest of siblings who fight often
-parents gave her a cat because they tought caring about an animal would make her less aggressive
-it worked a bit so her parents gave her a second cat (and kept doing it until she her aggressivity goes away - it worked but she plans fights with Pansy just so her parents get notified and she can keep getting more cats)
-always falls asleep first and looks innocent & angelic when sleeping
-plays the basson
-becomes a wizarding nightclub bouncer/ vigile
DAPHNÉE GREENGRASS
- started questioning her pureblood supremacy beliefs bc of the forbidden romance books Pureblood x Muggle (only talked about it to her little sister Astoria and Tracey)
- dated Theodore for 2 years but was the one to break it off in 6th year (just days before the Slughorn Armotentia scene) because she fell in love with a Beaux-Bâtons boy she met on a family vacation
-> starts a long distance relationship with him but barely lasts a month and a half
-thinks Draco is arrogant and doesn't like him much
-has good grades
-glass child (that’s by she wants academic validation)
-plays the transverse flute
- took Muggle Studies in her 8th year
- becomes Head of the Department of the Muggle-Wixen Relations at the Ministry and write romance books in her spare time
TRACEY DAVIS
-she's mixed : dad is white British and mom is Morrocan
-pre-Hogwarts, as she went to a Muggle preschool/primary school, she was a bit ashamed of her arabic origins (because of racist remarks) and tried hard to fit in with her white british classmates by rejecting her mother's culture
-because of her frequentations, she got some internalized prejudice towards her father's side - who's Muggle - despite having a good relationship with them - doesn't usually talks about them to her friends because she doesn't handle rejection well
-since racism isn't really a thing in the WW, she started getting more in touch with her mother's culture as a teen
-people pleaser
-energetic
-always smiling
-art kid
- has glasses
-her dad's a guitar teacher and taught her - she particularly likes electric guitar
-becomes a guitarist for a popular experimental wixen music band
THEODORE NOTT
-grew up in a lonely home : his mother was sick all is childhood and died when he was 11, and his dad has always been emotionally distant
-his dad resents him because his wife's quickly worsened following her pregnancy
-very introvert, always his head in a book
-actulally likes the History of Magic class
-has a tuxeto cat
-his father was way older than his mother and his friends' parents in general so he's more old fashioned and conservative
-late bloomer, actually had to have his friends (probably draco) to give him the sex talk cause his parents sure didn't
-nerdy about very specific subjects, mostly ones they don't study in class (ex : magic from other countries...)
-because of his mom's passing in front of him, he has a very mature view of death at a young age, especially compared to his friends
-doesn't agree with Death Eaters because of it (and since he's not close to his dad)
-uncomfortable with affection
-also developed a pessimistic vision of love after his break-up with Daphnée and bonded with Draco about it (although he doesn't wanna take side/criticize Blaise as he is closer to him
-thinks Pansy is too loud and obnoxious
-has glasses
-plays the cello
-becomes a researcher in History of Magic
DRACO MALFOY
-during the christmas of 2nd year, he's shared a dorm friends with Crabbe and Goyle for a year and a half, they're friends since nappies as their fathers as their fathers are "friends"/ex-"colleagues" : he definitely knew it wasn't them when Ron and Harry used polyjuiced (he just ragebaited them as usual), meaning he's not usually mean to his friends (probably can be but not necessarily more than the average child)
-loves his friends but doesn't trust them enough to confide his problems
-so if something's wrong he'll bottle up during the day and cry in his bed at night
- has a lot of internal turmoil with his values (wand lore basically confirms it)
-after he and Blaise broke it off, he dramatically declare that he didn't believe in love anymore (see : when he and Theo scoff at Slughorn explanation of Armotentia)
-doesn't think Crabbe and Goyle are as stupid as Blaise or Harry do but part of why he hangs out most with them IS that he likes being the smartest in the group cause he is insecure
-in 6th year, he started being snappy and making rude comments to his friends, didn't listen to what they said anymore (bc he was so focused on his task and stressed about it) so at some point most of them started giving him the silent treatment - I reckon Pansy would be the one that stuck by him but she's not in his dorm and with Daphnee and Theodore’s break up the girls and boys avoid hanging out all together
-normally, he's the type to spend 45 minutes in the shower - at the great annoyment of his roommates- , has an extensive hair and skincare routine with 10 different expensive hair products
-that only stops during 6th year (maybe even 7th year to a degree) he doesn't want to waste time and his priorities are not on his appearance : he starts having acne, purple eyebags and doesn't slick back his hair anymore nor cut it : it looks messy, long(ish), dull and even slightly greasy at times
-affectionate
-plays the violin
-sweet tooth like Narcissa
-becomes a wizard musical actor, then during his mid-forty changes jobs and starts writing songs for wizarding musicals instead
ASTORIA GREENGRASS
-dated Padma Patil for a few months in her 4rth year (when Padma was in her 5th year)
-plays the harp
-she has a muggleborn slytherin friend in her year and a few half-blood, so her friendgroup was already more open-minded than her sister's
-found Draco obnoxious/arrogant at school like her sister, but becomes friend with him when they both end up studying at the Wizarding Academy of Dramatic Arts
-> they were in a play together and Draco's character was in love with hers (her character doesn't have lines as she's a dancer and not an actor) but since they had a duo, they had to spend time together and became very close friends once she found out he wasn't still a dick like at school
-will become a witch classical dancer
-Draco introduces her to his cousin Luna Lovegood and they immediately click and start dating not long after meeting (spoiler alert : they live happily ever after without blood curse bs)
-before that, she dated a Muggle woman (also a dancer) for a few years
-personality similar to Scorpius : intelligent, silly, loyal, clumsy, empathic, awkward, probably neurodivergent…
- she has rosacea (Luna finds her pink cheeks adorable)
