Hyacinth Pink James Fitton Illustration from Stella Mary Peace’s children’s book for Alan Wingate, who also published an Enid Marx children’s book in the same year. Fitton was a founding member of the AIA, one of the three ‘Jimmies’ and also a prolific poster designer, for London Transport, The Ministry of Food, and Ealing Studios. I’m not sure if he illustrated other children’s books, but this is the only one I’ve come across. The Hares and the Frogs Arnrid Johnston a prolific illustrator in the 1930s and 40s, commissioned for posters by Frank Pick, London Zoo, and picture books for Puffin, Transatlantic Arts and others, but now almost forgotten. She studied at The Slade and (IMO) was one of the few illustrators who really understood the craft of lithography, how textures and colours interact on the stone, and her chalky lithos are still wonderful.
