⁣ Canon EOS 250D | 67mm | 1/1000s | f/6.3 | ISO 100⁣ Taken on 01/04/2021.⁣ ⁣ Here's a snapshot of the gorgeous Monferrato hills taken from Olivola.⁣ ⁣ In the foreground we can see Frassinello Monferrato, whose most important monument is the castle, now run as a B&B.⁣ ⁣ On the right is Camagna Monferrato, instantly recognisable thanks to its iconic church Sant'Eusebio.⁣ ⁣ Behind Camagna we can just make out Conzano on the left and Lu Monferrato on the right. ⁣ Canon EOS 250D | 135mm | 1/200s | f/16 | ISO 100⁣ Taken on 27/01/2021.⁣ ⁣ The hilly Monferrato area in Piedmont is not only becoming increasingly popular with hikers and cyclists, but it's also getting greater recognition for its gourmet restaurants along with some of the country's best wineries.⁣ ⁣ Here's a landscape photograph I took from Vignale Monferrato of the neighbouring wine town of Frassinello Monferrato. ⁣ Canon EOS 250D | 78mm | 1/250s | f/18 | ISO 100⁣⁣ Taken on 09/05/2020.⁣⁣ ⁣ A tour of the UNESCO-listed Monferrato hills wouldn't be complete without making a stop at Frassinello Monferrato.⁣⁣ ⁣ A charming hilltop village from which you can enjoy beautiful panoramic views of the surrounding colourful countryside, Frassinello Monferrato is also part of the itinerary of the 'Infernot': underground rooms hand-carved into the stone that are intended to store wine.⁣ ⁣ These 'infernot' are a precious legacy of the ancient Monferrato tradition, which involved keeping wine at least four metres under the country houses so as to preserve the wine's fine taste, and can only be found in certain villages in the Monferrato area: Cella Monte, Frassinello Monferrato, Ottiglio and Rosignano Monferrato among others.⁣⁣ ⁣ I took this photo from Altavilla Monferrato on a road called 'Strada Provinciale 51' (SP51) which, if you follow it all the way downhill, will lead to Casorzo.⁣ It was a wide-angle panoramic shot that captured the villages Rosignano Monferrato and Cella Monte, so I divided it into two shots.⁣ ⁣ 𝗛𝗼𝘄 𝘁𝗼 𝗴𝗲𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗿𝗲:⁣ ⁣ To get there, take a bus from Asti or Alessandria with the company 'Arfea'/'Autostradale' to Altavilla Monferrato bus station. ⁣ Canon EOS 250D | 42mm | 1/13s | f/14 | ISO 100⁣ Taken on 21/07/2020.⁣ ⁣ The hilltop hamlet of Moleto has one of the best scenic viewpoints in the Lower Monferrato area.⁣ ⁣ I really like how I managed to capture a row of cardboard cutout, coloured pencils leading to Frassinello Monferrato in the background. Notice as well how the colours reflect the Monferrato area: blue representing the sky, red and orange representing the soil, green representing the grass and trees, and so on. Also, the rainbow of colours 🌈 is a sign of hope — maybe for COVID-19? ⁣ ⁣ It's yet another fine example of simplistic art that has a profound effect on people's physical and mental wellbeing. Who wouldn't want to sit and have dinner or drinks while admiring the pencil artwork and the surrounding mellow hills?⁣ ⁣ 𝗛𝗼𝘄 𝘁𝗼 𝗴𝗲𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗿𝗲:⁣ ⁣ The closest bus stops to Moleto are Frassinello, Celle Monte and Olivola. The bus company 'Autostradale' runs services from Alessandria and Casale Monferrato to these wine villages but, unfortunately, not that many.⁣ ⁣ You could also trek around this part of Monferrato. On my visit to Moleto last year (this photo was taken on an evening out with friends), I first got a bus from Casale Monferrato to Rosignano Monferrato; from there I walked to Celle Monte and then continued on to Moleto, Olivola and Frassinello.
