MOViE HOT TAKE
a lot of people praise "a twist" too much in story telling, and then there's a select few 4chan/redditers that are way too vocal about how "predictability is bad actually" Predictability means nothing to quality. you can write "the Knight and the Princess" a million times, but the execution is what matters. Shrek is a story about "the knight and the princess" and it's one of the best "Knight and Princess" stories to date. How to train your dragon is a simple premise, "I have a funky pet!" We've done this with Gremlins, we've done this with E.T. HTTYD is no different, it's just a really good, compelling version of it. They even have a LIAR REVEALED plot line in it, before the underdog hero comes in to save the day and the others apologize for being so mean to him. And yet the "You're not my son" scene in the movie is one of the heaviest in the movie, and was THE heaviest scene in cinema for it's time. Predictability is not bad, hollywood needs to write better movies.
