Grace Kelly and author Frederick Knott of "Dial M For Murder"
Dial M for Murder premiered in Philadelphia, PA on 18 May 1954.
Based on Frederick Knott's 1952 play (Knott also wrote the screenplay), the film was originally shot with 3-D technology (and shown at the Philadelphia premiere), after theater goers overwhelmingly expressed their dislike of the 3-D print, the 2-D version was substituted after only 4 screenings.
Despite the inauspicious premiere (Alfred Hitchcock blamed it his being late to a fad that had passed), Dial M for Murder was both a commercial and critical success.
