Why does Anton dress like a vampire?

I know this might be a stupid question but I've been thinking a lot about it lately.

At first you might think, "that was just the fashion back then" but that's wrong.

If the Layton series is based around the 1960s, then Anton's era is in the 1910s. Capes and ruffles were definitely not in style then. Men mostly wore long suits and ties.

Looking at a photo of him and his family, you can see that they fit this style but Anton doesn't.

But then there's Sophia. She dresses in a similar style to Anton, with a large, lacy gown. However, she wore that to a ball, most of the time she dressed like a modern 1910s lady.

So, why does Anton constantly dress like he's in the eighteenth centuy, long before people thought he was a vampire?

The only explanation I can give is that he was either a huge drama queen and obsessed with 1800s fashion. Or, the pain of losing Sophia caused him to pull a Miss Havisham and refused to change out of his fancy dress costume for the next fifty years.

Any other ideas?
