Alright.

I'm looking for information on how to do a thing(that thing is public speaking but isn't important to this post) and all I'm getting is SAAS products, online stores, and hyper-recent product ads masquerading as blog posts. Lovely, but not helpful. Google, DDG, Bing, etc. have become the mercantile front for the web.

Does anyone have any search engine recs (asides from my lovable local library) for a broad variety of searches that emphasize factual resources and de-emphasizes the for-sale parts of the web?

Wikipedia is often overlooked in accuracy for letting anyone edit articles, but as a nonprofit who's entire mission is to provide the most accurate and objective free information possible as well as unbiased accounts of every perspective, it's absolutely invaluable as a resource especially in this day and age of rampant misinformation. It's a fantastic launchpad for researching any variety of topics, with detailed information and meticulously listed sources (in other words, making it as easy as possible to find more info and fact check any given Wikipedia article.

The Wikimedia Foundation also hosts a free dictionary, free textbooks, free learning resources, and much more.

That being said, as a nonprofit, they rely entirely on donations to stay afloat. If Wikipedia has ever been helpful to you, please consider donating- no amount is too small!
