The afternoon sun slanted gold through Fairy Tail’s high windows, turning dust motes into drifting sparks above the rowdy crowd. A wagon-load of adventurers had just tumbled in, each brag louder than the last—so no one noticed the swirl of quieted air by the doorway until a girl stepped through.
Solana Dreyar.
She moved like the hush that follows thunder: serene, effortless, with platinum blonde hair braided low against a lilac traveling cloak. A faint scrape of leather boots announced her arrival before she tugged down the hood, revealing eyes softer than midsummer skies. In the uproar of tankards and tall tales, she was a still lake.
Across the hall, Laxus’s chair screeched as he stood. Pride—and a pinch of relief—flared in his gaze. He folded his arms, scowling even as he scanned her for cuts. “Tch. About time.” But his voice had no real bite.
Solana’s answering smile was gentle. The contrast in their attitude still surprises anyone who comes across the Dreyar siblings the first time. Even to the other guild members. “Mission ran late. Mystogan wanted to double-check a seal.”
At the very mention of the name, a nerve twitched at Laxus’s jaw. Freed Justine, who had been half-hidden behind a tower of request posters, felt his heart raced—Solana is back. But also, he couldn’t help but feel a pang of jealousy after hearing that she came from a mission with Mystogan again. One of the strongest fairy tail members, and an S-Class mage. He had yet to meet the guy, much like the rest of the members, but everytime he hears his name, he couldn’t help but feel irked due to how close he and Solana are.
Good thing Laxus also feels the same.
The moment Solana crossed the floor, the guild’s noise faded in Freed’s ears. Thunder Legion strategems, Bickslow’s babble, the shouts of mages arm-wrestling on the bar—every sound slipped underwater. He reached instinctively to straighten the cravat at his throat, heart hammering a staccato script of runes he’d never dare carve aloud:
‘look, but don’t stare’
‘breathe, pretend calm’
It never worked.
“Oh Solana’s back?” seeing Bickslow’s sly expression made Freed want to punch him—which is unruly and totally not in his character to do so.
Bickslow’s floating dolls cackled in chorus behind him. “Eee-hee-hee, Big Bro Freed’s blushing agaaain!”
Evergreen’s glasses flashed. “Honestly, if that infatuation of yours gets any more obvious, even Laxus will notice—and you know what that means.” She mimed an explosion with her fingers.
Freed forced his lips into a scholar’s smile and studied the parchment in his hand as though rune law itself depended on it. He knew what Evergreen meant and honestly, he’s been trying to be discreet with his feelings and he knows he’s doing a good job! The only ones who are making it hard for him are his hooligans of a friends.
Yet when he heard Solana laughed—soft as wind chimes—he peeked anyway, drinking in the way her shoulders shook, how the sunlight kissed a freckle near her ear… Seems like she’s trying to coax Laxus to stop sulking again. Not that their boss would explicitly show it to everyone. He only ever became like that to her.
He tore his gaze away a heartbeat before Laxus turned.
“Oi, Freed,” Laxus barked, planting a hand on his sister’s shoulder. “Got time to watch her back on tomorrow’s job? Guildmaster asked for high-tier.” He paused, amber eyes narrowing. “Though maybe Mystogan’s free again.”
A spark of jealousy rippled under his words; Freed felt it like static in the air. Panic flared—if he volunteered too quickly, Laxus might suspect. If he hesitated, he might lose the chance.
“I’ll accompany her,” Freed said evenly, adjusting his glasses to hide widening pupils. “Mystogan is… otherwise occupied.” It wasn’t a lie—he’d confirmed it an hour ago, just in case.
Bickslow coughed a laugh. Evergreen sighed in amusement. Laxus grunted approval, then strode off to find Master Makarov, cape snapping behind him like distant lightning.
Solana’s gaze drifted to Freed at last. A smile—soft, unguarded—bloomed on her lips. “Thank you, Freed. I always feel safe when you’re around.”
Words tangled in his throat. He settled for a muted nod, clutching the rolled-up parchment so tightly his knuckles paled. As she walked past, the scent of wildflowers lingered, and a brand-new line of invisible runes etched across his heart:
‘protect her with everything’
Behind him, Bickslow’s dolls whispered, “Se-cret—se-cret,” while Evergreen hummed an old wedding tune just loud enough for him to hear.
Freed pressed a hand over his suddenly racing heart, praying to every rune and storm-god that Laxus Dreyar—the brother who guarded Solana like a dragon hoarding treasure—never discovered just how precious she had become to him.
But Fairy Tail’s walls loved gossip almost as much as they loved magic, and secrets—like sparks—had a way of catching fire.
He only wished his secret would be kept between him and his heart only.

Freed Justine with a Tall Clingy S/o:
Ok so we all know Freed himself is clingy AF, so I don't see him having much of a problem with it if his boyfriend is the same way
I mean at the start of the relationship he'll definitely be blushing like crazy anytime you cling on to him, whether that's wrapping an arm around his shoulders or just sitting super close
But over time he will get used to it and even expect it, so when you are hanging with the thunder legion and you pull him close to you and rest your head on his, he just lets it happen
Bickslow will make jokes about it to try and get on the rune mage's nerves but he's used to his friends teasing and just ignores it
Though there is a couple of times that can get Freed flustered from how clingy you are
First one is if there is serious meeting happening at the guild
For example during the selection meeting for the S-class trail, if you cling onto him and congratulate him for being chosen he will blush a little more than normal
The second case where he will get flustered is if it's in public, such as on a job or at the grand magic games
If you lean on him while you are meeting with the clients of the job, he will be fighting of a bright blush
Now he will also try and make you flustered
as previously stated Freed is also clingy so expect that if he catches you slacking, he will cling onto you
Arms around your waist, head on your shoulder, basically anything he can think of to keep you close to him
If that doesn't fluster you he will risk embarrassing himself by sitting in your lap while you guys talk with the thunder legion, or hang on your back while you walk around town
Honestly it eventually just becomes a running joke that you are both just trying to see who can get the other to blush more
All in all, Freed doesn't mind that your clingy because that just proves you care about him
— Whines, groans, and moans. It literally never stops until you talk to him or even glance at him at least. He can be very childish, but your attention means a lot to him, and he’ll tone it down if that means he can hear you again. His face lights up when you finally give and start talking to him again.
Gray
— Gives it right back. He’s stubborn, even when he’s in the wrong. He realizes it later though, but he’s also a person that hates to admit he was wrong. He makes small attempts to get you to talk to him again. Believe it or not, he apologizes to get you to talk to him again and sighs a sigh of relief when you give in.
Erza
— Life gets a bit gloomy once again while you’re mad at her. She’s persistent to get you talk to her again though, but she realizes if you need time or space. She can easily admit her wrong doings, but would expect you to do the same. When you start talking to her again, she’s excited to have you back.
Lucy
— Her smile fades when she realizes that you aren’t talking to her. She’ll constantly think about you during missions or even afternoons by herself. Even though you aren’t talking to her, she continues to talk to you. When you did start talking to her once again, she was so happy to fill you in on her daily activities.
Gajeel
— Another stubborn one, and he won’t give in unless it is for a good reason. His pettiness knows no bounds even when it comes to his lover. But, fortunately, he has that soft side to him. He apologizes and hopes the problem can be resolved. When you start talking to him again, he’s happy to hear your voice again and forgets all about the problem.
Sting
— Thinks this is a joke when you stop talking to him, but when he realizes that you are really mad, he begins to backtrack with his recent actions. Once he finds out the problem, he immediately apologizes, hoping this would be over as soon as possible. When you start talking to him again, he’s ecstatic to hear that pretty voice directed at him.
Rogue
— Gives you space and plenty of time. You might have to confront him on this one. He doesn’t know how to react when you stop talking to him. Though, once you confront him in a head-on conversation, he apologizes for whatever he said or did that has made you upset. Wants to cuddle as a celebration.
Laxus
— refuses to apologize because he believes he wasn’t in the wrong. He tries to give you the silent treatment before you could do it to him, but you win in that race. Weeks later, he accepts that he was wrong and insists on making up with you. When you start talking to him again, he won’t particularly admit that he missed having you talk to him, but you certainly can tell.
Macbeth
— Gives you a cold shoulder when he notices that you aren’t talking to him anymore. He comes around eventually and is surprisingly more willing to solve it quickly. He can’t handle you not talking to him, so he’ll do anything to get you back. When you start talking to him again, he gives you a kiss on the cheek, letting you know that you two have officially made up.
Freed
— Spends time trying to avoid you. Though, he finds himself in the same places as you, all the time. He runs into you everywhere and he sort of just clams up. He begins to miss you, a lot. He eventually reaches out to apologize. When you start talking to him again, he thinks you two deserve a bubble bath to relax in.
Erik
— Annoys you to the point where you have to talk. It’s pretty unfair, the way he operates. He even goes as far as following you around, hoping you’d talk to him if he is with you all day. But when none of his actions work, he comes to you with a real apology, hoping you’d speak to him again. When you start talking to him again, he makes you promise to never give him the silent treatment again.
Bickslow
— A bit disappointed that you two have gotten to this point. He doesn’t dwell on it too much until he’s alone with you. He makes many attempts to say something, anything, but what it all boils down to is him apologizing. His apology is sincere and straightforward, wanting to hear your voice has been on his mind all day. When you start talking to him again, he has this big grin on his face.
