HELP GET NAZANIN ZAGHARI-RATCLIFFE HOME

Another person that was jailed for no crime committed. This time was Nazanin Zaghari-Ratcliffe, a 39 years old British-Iranian woman who was arrested at the  Tehran airport with her young daughter, Gabriella, on April 3rd 2016. She faces now 2 years of jail. Initially she got in solitary for eight and half months without even knowing why she got arrested and she faced a trial where she was only allowed to have a lawyer 3 days before trial and, to not finish the madness, she wasn’t allowed to talk while in trial. In September 2016, Nazanin was sentenced to five years in prison for ‘membership of an illegal group’.  The “illegal group” isn’t real, Nazanin works for the Thomson Reuters Foundation, a UK-based media charity, in London. Let’s help Nazanin’s husband and the Amnesty International UK releasing Nazanin! Just click in the link down below and send a message demanding her release. This message will be send to the Foreign Secretary Boris Johnson, the man who can help release her but can’t do without your help. We need to reach 200,000 total of signatures!

I joined Amnesty Cardiff yesterday to cover a photocall on the front steps of the Senedd for women Members of the Senedd showing solidarity with Nazanin Zaghari-Ratcliffe who is unjustly imprisoned in Iran. Members of Amnesty Cardiff have used a variety of actions over the last few years to raise awareness, lobby and show solidarity for the campaign to #FreeNazanin.

A huge knitted chain is the result of one of these endeavours and we've been waiting for a post-lockdown opportunity to bring the chain to the Senedd. It was great to see MSs from across the political parties joining the show of solidarity.

WHAT ARE YOU PASSIONATE ABOUT, WHAT MAKES YOUR BLOOD BOIL? . It’s now three years since the unfair incarceration of #Nazanin Zaghari-Ratcliffe in Tehran. She was visiting family with her Little girl Gabriella when she was wrongly arrested for supposedly plotting to topple the Iranian government. Her daughter is now 5 and stays with Nazanin‘ s parents. She hadn’t seen her daddy in person since the arrest and only sees her mummy in prison. The injustice of this situation makes my blood boil. A little girl separated from her parents and can you imagine what Nazanin is going through? So far robbed of three years of her life with her husband and daughter. Amnesty International - Stand Up in the Park

We had the perfect weather for an open-air comedy night in Sophia Gardens, raising money and awareness in support of Nazanin Zaghari-Ratcliffe who has been unjustly imprisoned in Iran for over 800 days in terrible conditions, following a visit to family in Tehran with her daughter Gabriella. I was proud to support the event and to meet Nazanin’s husband and sister-in-law who have been fighting for her early release.

Thanks to Cardiff Amnesty branch for inviting me to work with them and to so many people who were willing to show their support for the campaign by posing with the placards.

We were all treated to a night of excellent comedy, compèred by the brilliant Clint Edwards with superb sets from comedians Rhys James, Kiri Pritchard-McLean, Ben Norris and Lorna Pritchard.
