French 1845/55 Infantry Officers Sword - £380
This iconic sabre was in use in the French Army from its inception in 1845 and is still being used by the Republican guard. It served during World War 1 as officers preferred it to the slimmer 1882. It also served as inspiration for the American Model 1850 Foot Officer's Sword
The blade is in excellent condition with no pitting or patina., it is unsigned, although likely Klingenthal. It has been service sharpened at some point in its history meaning that it has seen active service. The brass hilt with comes with the standard foliate decoration a ribbed leather wrapped grip and a Phrygian pommel. Some of the grip wire is still intact, a rarity with this type of sword. The sword is solid in the guard.
The steel scabbard has some pitting and a very nice overall patina. The mounts and fittings are solid and there is no movement or dents.
