I’d been meaning to see Poster Art 150, and a friend suggested we hit Friday Lates at the TFL. Friday Lates is a series of evening events held at a variety of London museums. As well as getting to enjoy their general collection, and of course the Poster Art 150 exhibition they also put on a bar, a pub quiz (themed TFL style), a series of workshops, a fancy-dress photo-shoot and talks you can enjoy. It’s basically all the fun stuff kids like (and adults secretly love), with no kids and alcohol thrown in. Ideal.
The 150 posters exhibition was great to see the change of styles and the 'key messages' which were put out on the posters over the years. During the early 20th century, many of the posters promoted the tube as the place to go to keep warm!
One of the workshops I joined was ‘Botanical Paper Cuts’- where I got to make some flowers from old vintage maps. I don't think I've picked up a craft knife for the best part of 10 years when I took my GCSE textiles! There was also an opportunity to paint a London transport themed bag.
And of course once you’ve finished playing with the paper and paints, you got to play on the buses…
Don’t let exams, revision and essays get in your way of enjoying what the capital has to offer. Events such as these are great as they give you a few hours off in the evening to enjoy something completely different! Check out the TFL Friday Lates for more events.
