Friendly hug
hi wasn’t last night’s crossover AMAZING??? can’t believe we have to wait until the 21st for more fire(aka my birthday)……. But luckily we have justice to watch, which seems like a great show!!! hope you enjoy this little drabble! i don’t own anything:-) ——————— The warehouse kept bringing back memories of that horrible, fateful night every time Sylvie saw it. But that didn’t keep her from coming back to the memorial of flowers and stuffed animals, somehow keeping her grounded these past few days. She didn’t think she would be able to rest until justice was served for this horrible crime.
Every time she visited, she brought something different. One day she brought a small cross, another a stuffed animal. Today she had some beautiful daisies.
Her heart tightened when she noticed Al Olinsky a little further away from her. She couldn’t imagine what he was going through, it must be absolutely devastating. As well as for the other 38 families……but with Al, even though they were just acquaintances, it hit closer to home.
Sylvie placed the flowers down, a different place from where she put things down before. She thought it was good to distribute the gifts she brought, not for any particular reason. Maybe to spread the love slightly more.
When she stood up after saying a small prayer, she knocked into someone who was walking by. She turned around, an apology already halfway out of her mouth.
“I’m so sorry—” However, she was taken aback by who she saw. “Oh! Antonio!” Her ex seemed surprised to see her as well. Sylvie noticed the investigator badge around his neck, he was here for work.
“Hey, Sylvie.” He greeted her, and wherever he was headed was now on the back burner as he crossed his arms over his chest and had an expression of concern on his face. They haven’t seen each other since before this fire. “How are you doing?”
She avoided his question, instead just asking it back at him. Yes, she still had vivid memories of that event, but it had to be difficult for Antonio, a father himself. Plus he was close to Al, and knew Lexi well. “How are you doing?”
He seemed to expect that response, a tiny smile coming and going on his face. “I’m doing okay. Dealing with everything.” He shrugged, trying not to show that it was getting to him more than he was displaying. “Saw Diego and Eva yesterday. That helped.”
Sylvie resisted the urge to grab onto his arm to give him comfort. “I bet it did.”
He asked the question again, this time with a firmer voice. “How are you?”
“I’m…..okay.” She used the same response as him. “I think I’ll be better when the case gets solved, you know?” She debated about saying what was on the tip of her tongue, but it then just slipped out. “I think I would sleep easier, along with everyone else. The memories won’t be as potent. It’s just what everyone is talking about. Hard to escape it.”
“We’re figuring it out.” Antonio reassured her. “This guy isn’t going to get away.”
“I hope so.” Sylvie said back, beginning to naw on her bottom lip. She didn’t know what else to exactly talk about.
But Antonio looked like he was fighting something internally. The next thing she knew, Antonio’s arms were around her in a tight hug. Even though she was surprised and confused, her own arms lifted up to return the hug.
A few seconds later, Antonio stepped back. He seemed a little flustered. “Sorry, that was probably weird—”
Sylvie shook her head, thinking that they actually needed the hug, despite their current separation. “No, no. It was fine. Just a friendly hug, right?” She shrugged her shoulders, not wanting Antonio to feel like he did something wrong.
They both knew there was definitely more than friendliness in that hug, but no one brought it up. Certainly wasn’t the right time. “Yeah, yeah.” He agreed, stuffing his hands into his pockets. “God knows we need one after dealing with all of this shit.”
Laura Nagel came into view, holding a piece of paper. She gave a confused look back and forth between Antonio and Sylvie, but didn’t say anything about them. Her mind was on the case. “Look at this…” She handed him the paper.
That was her cue to go. “Good luck guys.” She told them, beginning to take a few steps forward. Laura gave her a nod of acknowledgement, while Antonio actually looked up and took a step towards her.
Sylvie shook her head, he was working. She didn’t even want to take a few more seconds of his time. She took enough already. “Nice to see you, Antonio.” She spoke, hoping that would deter him from her.
He stopped in his tracks. “See you.” He echoed, looking back down at the paper. But he then looked back up. “Be careful, alright?”
She nodded. “I will.” And after a final small wave, she turned around, heading towards her car.
