for the drabble thing, Lance, After a near-death experience, and “Tell me what you’re thinking right now.” ;;
AO3
It’s been a couple of hours since they found themselves in Lances bedroom, lights dimmed, silhouettes of everything surrounding them distinguishable but not pronounced, Keith could make out Lances face just so when he turned his head.
They were both lying on their backs athwart the bed, their feet on the ground, close to each other but not yet touching. Lance was unsettlingly stiff, though he could feel him shaking, shuddering every few ticks.Keith wanted to do something, to embrace him or at least hold his hand but he waited patiently.
He was surprised at how calm he found himself to be. Sure, he was furious when they first came out of their lions. He was ready to scream, victory be damned. He wanted to cry, to embrace, to kiss and make up and hold this brave, stupid and selfless boy close for the rest of the night, for as long as he was allowed to. But when he saw him there, in the hangar, looking so lost and scared and broken, he knew he wouldn’t even be able to raise his voice. He just took him by the hand and led him to the bedroom, stripped him off his armor and made him shower while he took care of dressing himself back into civilian clothes. And then they lied there, on Lances bed, in complete silence.
At last, Keith touched Lances hand tentatively. “Lance, if you don’t want to talk that’s okay but if you…”
“I’m sorry” Lance interrupted suddenly, his voice hoarse and low, and then he reached out to Keith, hugging him tightly and pressing him to his chest as he sobbed into his hair. Keith hugged back, just as strong, his hands stroking the other mans back as he cried, murmuring silent “I’m sorry’s” and “forgive me’s”.
Finally, he calmed down and loosened his embrace, and Keith looked up at him. His cheeks were tear-stained and his eyes and nose red. He looked sad, remorseful. Not like a hero who almost lost his life in order save an entire village from certain demise at all.
Keith smiled as he took his face in his hands. “Lance, look at me” he asked, and when Lance still kept his eyes closed he stroked his cheekbones gently. “Please?”
Lance looked at him hesitantly and Keith kissed him gently. It didn’t last for long, barely a peck, but Lance still smiled slightly at that, though it too disappeared quickly.
“I almost died” he said.
“Yes, you did” Keith agreed. “But I’m not mad” he added as he saw Lances face fall. He carded his hands through the other’s short curls. “Lance, you saved these people. It was reckless and dangerous and I’m not gonna lie, I was furious with you after that. I was scared that I’d loose you and that I’d be alone again but” he paused, trying to find the right words. “You took the risk none of us was willing to take” he resumed. “And it payed off. You won, thousands of people from that village are alive thanks to you!” he exclaimed while bringing their foreheads together. “Don’t apologize to me, Lance. You did the right thing and I’m proud of you.”
Keith could see fresh tears falling down Lances face, and he wasn’t surprised to find out that he also started crying. He hugged Lance tightly and after a while, they both fell asleep like that.
In the morning, Lance woke up to the sight of Keith looking at him contemplatively, with a small smile dancing which only got wider when he noticed that Lance isn’t asleep anymore.
“Tell me what you’re thinking right now” he asked, his voice still husky with sleep, and sneaked an arm around Keith’s waist.
“Oh, nothing really” he answered after leaving a soft peck on his nose. “I’m just happy that you’re still with me”.
