I really wanted to put Granada Lestrade in the pea jacket he wears in The Adventure of the Noble Bachelor
[ID: Digital drawing of Lestrade in a navy pea coat and cream cravat. On the upper left is a crop of the inspector in the original illustration by Sidney Paget /end ID]
Sherlock Holmes is not diagnosed and he is not out. He is a high functioning man who lives in a society according to the rules that it sets. The few cases that are written from his POV are just as focused on the other lead as Watson is focused on Holmes, and they are just as unreliable as narration. Holmes is born in a time with large lumps of groups of people together, and there did not exist the specifications that we have today with our more itemised forms of language. So what I mean is: Holmes is queer, that is invioable. But is he ace? Is he aro? Is he gay? Is he bi? Is he pan? Is he some mix? He is what you need him to be. The only sure thing is that he is queer of some sort. Likewise: Holmes has some sort of neurodivergence. But is it autism? Is it Bipolar? Is it just depression? Is it adhd? Again, is it some mixture of the above or something else entirely? All that is sure is that he is not......typical.
Holmes is of a marginal group - but the beauty is that it is never specified what. He is what the reader needs him to be to find representation. Queer, neurodiverse.....he is himself.
Ive quite lost the plot here but I love how he is proof that we have always been here, even before specialized labels became a thing.
(This is not to say specialised labels are a bad thing, sometimes having a word for what SPECIFICALLY you are does wonders. I was just....musing)
this is a little illustration of @bedheaded-league 's fanfic The Second Mrs. Watson (which you should absolutely read)
i couldn't draw wifesona holmes yet, cause @/bedheaded-league, you haven't written it, so i'm BEGGING you
also, this is a repost, original post had to be taken down due to scammers and people i wouldn't like to see on my blog
detailed notes and images without text under the cut (if you can decipher my scribbles)
this alternative version bellow was too good to leave under the cut
idk what's happening but every single post of holmes fanart gets noticed by scammers….. just like, people, this is a detective and his husband from victorian era and the public domain…. could you leave me and the two gay men that live in my head rent free alone?
on my latest post i stated i was still figuring out design of them, but i think i got it, i really like the eepy watson and the hug from behind
