Are you free from the migraine at last? If no, I hope I am not too late with a distraction: have you any controversial opinions on sandwich ingredients, construction, or taxonomy?
To the first: Um. No. But I should be soon — just jabbed myself with the monthly preventative, which means I feel cruddy and am mid-injection site reaction, but whatever. Probably just got unlucky with waning meds and waxing weather overlapping.
To the second: Maybe, re: taxonomy? Probably depends on the audience. My classical biology training wants the definition of such to be elegant and self-evident under a certain amount of scrutiny. (Un)fortunately the natural history of sandwiches is not strictly of descent with modification, so it isn’t. That’s where the information science comes in — I’m pretty happily cynical about taxonomy in general.
‘Sandwich’ as a category is only worth having to the extent it usefully circumscribes what it’s supposed to to the people it’s supposed to. I’m not interested in litigating much further.
Also I think they’re overrated.
