ok not to be rude, but what exactly IS a split tolerance bc i've ever heard it in servers where the good crux of the communities have fetishized and romanticized the disorder, boiling it down to alter disorder and ESPECIALLY fictive disorder.
i don't mean this as like a diss towards anyone with higher alter counts as we too, have a high alter count, but after shitty experiences in the online sys community (discord especially), i'm honestly pretty wary of the term bc i've only ever seen it be used by the types who not only brag abt their alter count, but the types who also treat introjectism as rp AND misuse the label "polyfragmented"
"Not to be rude, but-"
That is rude. I will still answer, but you are being rude. Adding "not to be rude" to the start does not change the fact that you are being rude.
Split tolerance refers to the typical amount of stress and trauma a specific system is required to undergo before forming an alter. This does not mean a system always has to undergo that specific amount of stress or trauma, it just refers to the average requirement.
For example, a low split tolerance requires less stress or trauma to split. A high split tolerance requires more stress or trauma to split.
A system with a low split tolerance could have a hundred alters. A stystem with a high split tolerance could have a dozen.
Polyfragmented systems tend to have lower split tolerances, hence the amount of fragments, but this is not always the case.
