In the process of Eddie coming to terms with his own sexuality, it would be fun to be introduced to a past situationship of his. It would be someone he served with in the army or from Texas, where it makes sense that they would conceal their sexuality for their safety. We find out that the character isn't straight and then we can watch Eddie recontextualize their entire relationship in real time. Bonus points if there are obvious and direct buddie parallels.

The vision:

"How did you not know? Friends aren't typically like that with each other."

"Sure they are. Buck and I are exactly like that."

Highlights of Matt Dinniman meet & greet (will include spoilers up to Book 6)

1. He killed Hekkla on a whim because he thought the death was cool, and then realized that meant he couldn’t use this super awesome antagonist he was setting up.

2. He has almost over a hundred levels he’s thought of that he can’t use. If he really liked the idea, he’ll reference them as a part of previous crawls.

3. He has an excel sheet with EVERY CHARACTER he’s introduced including where they’re from, their skills, their spells, and when they were introduced.

4. He killed Tserendolgor because he DIDN’T LIKE THE VOICE JEFF HAYS GAVE HER.

5. He considers Dungeon Crawler Carl to be a horror book (specifically existential dread) :)

6. There will be two more physical books, which he considers to be “Book 9, Part 1 & Part 2”. He says this because he’s writing it as one giant continuous book with a central arc, and then will split them up to publish. And yes, Book 9 Part 1 will end on a “horrible cliffhanger”.
